So we ended up buying the used Fly 150 (!) tonight when we went to see it. I am really excited! They are delivering it for us tomorrow in the early afternoon. We are going to get my Motorcyle Only Permit in the morning so I can start driving right away.

My question is about making sure it isn't stolen. I know it has that cool feature where only the computerized key works, but that doesn't stop 2 big guys from carrying it off. Should I chain it up? With what kind of chain?

Thanks!

Krytonite makes a great, heavy duty chain lock.

I use a noose chain. A disc lock is good too.

we have a REVS check in NSW. its tells you if there is any money owing on the vehical, if it has been writen off, if there is any speeding/parking fines, and if the vehical was stolen etc. would recommend a search if you have something similar where you live. however if you have already purchased it it's probably too late.

or do you mean stopping it from being stolen? do you have a shed you can lock it up in?

There's no way to 100% make sure it can't be stolen, but what you can do is make it harder and less desirable to steal.

A good chain lock (look at ones availible at motorcycle/scooter shops), a disc lock (with or without an alarm), a grip lock, and an internal alarm are all things to think about. Also be very aware of your surroundings whenever you park. Some folks say a bike cover may help, on the "out of sight, out of mind" theory. And a good insurance policy can't be beat, should the worst happen.

So far, I've only gone with a good insurance policy, and the Piaggio alarm system. I live in a pretty low-crime area, park in a garage at night, and have the only modern Vespa I've seen (regularly) in a small suburban town. So while anything can happen, I feel my risk of theft is fairly low. I do plan on getting a disc lock and/or a grip lock before I do any serious travelling. I don't frequently park near anything I can lock up to, and the wind in this area wouldn't be good for a cover. So you have to take certain factors into account when deciding what kind or protection you need for your own scoot.

Congrats on your new scoot! I haven't ridden a Fly myself, but I've heard many great things about them. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Congratulation! Good advice from posts above.

Kryponite "Forget About It" is what we have for both GT200 and Honda Metro. Makes one heck of a weapon if one is needed...be careful and don't drop it on your foot!

Another alternative may be a Zena audible disc Lock...I have this and will use when I'm concerned with where I may be parking and want something that will activate if scoot is jostled...check this post and embedded links to find out more about the Zena audible disc lock...
