So, there I was, laughing to myself about people that overfill their Vespas with "gas" and inadvertantly filling their pet carrier with "gas" and I was giggling thinking only Americans can mess up something so simple....

....

....yes, I just did that very thing 10 minutes ago. None went in the pet carrier but the bodywork and the lower legs of my jeans got a nice flammable bath Laughing emoticon

So this is my apology to all transatlantic and colonial cousins - just because you guys need warning labels on knives warning you not to stab anybody (may result in injury or death) doesn't mean us europeans don't make stupid mistakes at the petrol pump either.

Sorry

Why not just remove the Pet Carrier when filling the tank?

Because it wouldn't necessarily stop me spraying petrol everywhere - just not in the petcarrier. It's a moot point as the juice went everywhere except the 'carrier Laughing emoticon

If I called it "gas", then that would imply that it was in fact a gas instead of a liquid, with all sorts of Karmic implications

If gas was in fact gas, then it wouldn't have soaked everything (except for the puppy I keep under the seat) Nerd emoticon

The term "Pet Carrier" is tongue in cheek, referring to the removable container under the modern Vespa seat...so named in response to the warning sticker on it that says "No Pets."

I need that sticker - I'm on cute little pug puppy #27 now. Going to the pet shop later to buy "wrinkles 28" - those dogs don't last 10 minutes under the seat

Can anyone recommend a tougher breed perhaps?

I'll stick to the larger breeds from now on Akitas, Rottweilers, Dobermanns (Dobermen?) and Deerhounds, not in the pet carrier, but driving their own scooter probably Laughing emoticon

Let me recommend these local SC critters called "palmetto bugs"

They're about 5 cm long (head to wingtip) and seem to thrive in very warm places

And should pet carrier storage manage to kill them (most unlikely),
we have an endless supply of these guys that we'd be delighted to share

Actually, that one was already dead when I took the picture

I don't usually pause to take pictures of the live ones

and it really freaks me out that they can counterattack by flying at your face)

Hmmm, McCoffee is calling I might look a bit of an arse pulling up to the drive-through window on a scooter, especially with my sudden jerky arm movements an' all...worth it for a moderate new house, 1 new car , 1 new bike, and several old cars and scooters 8)

HOT i think if your going the Cockroach route go large and get the Madagascar hissing version. They are twice the size and hiss when you come near them Had one in my tent while i was river rafting in Madagascar and for a moment i almost let him have the tent Got my paddle and did him in Cheaper to feed than the pugs

Being an American myself, and having lived in Europe, Asia, and South America in service to my country, I am willing to give you a pass on the comments you made referencing Americans. I join the other members of this forum in engaging your topic, while ignoring the derogatory sideline.

If you think that's bad, on my older SeaDoo GTS they put the gas filling hole right next to the air intake hole, and I stuck the fill nozzle in the wrong hole while talking to some guy at the marina. I was pumping it while looking away, and basically filling up nearly the entire hull with gasoline. I finally realized it and had 12 inches of gas in the bottom. If I would have tried starting it, I would have been blown 60 feet into the air with my ass on fire.

I had to tow it up on the beach and siphon out about $20 of gas into a tub that was wasted.
