My elder son's X9 125 (pre-Evo) showed a symptom that is not acknowledged as possible in the manual. When the key was turned on, the LED just carried on flashing, but everything else seemed to come alive. Eventually found that one of the male connector pins on the kill-switch (never normally used) had sheared off all by itself, preventing the main system relay from working. GBP7 for a new switch - problem solved.
This will probably apply to many Piaggio models, so worth bearing in mind.
