Hey Modern Vespa. I'm a new guy, and instead of just lurking, I thought I'd introduce myself. Currently, I scoot on a 1985 Yamaha Riva, and also ride a 2004 Honda 599. Would you believe the Riva is much more fun than the 599? Nothing beats riding something very slow, very fast. Anyway, I am infatuated with the GTS and haven't decided on the 250 or 300, and hope to pick one up once the hornet is sold.
Rivas won't usually win any beauty contests, but they're definately decent little machines. I started out with a Razz (the baby 50 of the Riva family), bent the front fork on it, and it still kept going like nothing was wrong. Had a beater Riva 180 for about a year in CA. I don't think the poor thing had ever seen the inside of a proper service shop, and it had a functional sock stuffed up in the oil tank... but it still ran and ran like there was no tomorrow.
You'll love the Vespa 250/300 if you get one. Superb machines.
Both the GTS 250 and 300 Super are awesome scooters, you won't be disappointed in either. However, if you love having major torque to beat cars at stop lights, get the 300, it has torque to burn.
