Has anyone priced getting an extra key with the remote top? I know we can order the key and get it cut. But what about the remote top? And how do you program the remote? How long to get one?

What do you mean by "Remote Top"? Top what? You mean the back pet carrier access?

Only place to get keys with remote are from dealer at about $100 a piece.

Also, The programing steps are in the manual. You must have the master to do so. If you don't have the manual. Here is the link Jimc's web that has them. You can always PM me if you have any other questions.

The black key is the one you are talking about, right?

Anyway, you must go to a dealer to purchase one. I see you are in Santee!

As to getting that key cut: Steve, the MMI tech who works there, knows of only one place in San Diego County that can cut that key correctly, and I believe it is somewhere near Valley Center.

You need the master key to start the process of reprogramming the keys.
It is located in the Owner's Manual on how it is done, but Jyson, the sales rep at Vespa of San Diego, can easily reprogram the keys for you. Hope that this helps.

Good luck getting that key ordered. I ordered one when my kids temporarily lost mine. After 4 months still a no show. They told me it would be about $100 for the remote.

remote Key
Hey,
this is one way to get a key fast. I spoke with the manager of the Piaggio warehouse. They really could help you, if you gave them your complete name, address, & zip, cause I found out they have lots of parts there.

just email: customerfeedback@piaggiogroupusa.com

They will forward it on the their manager, and they will contact the local store within a couple of days and give you an answer. I have his name and it is Jeff. Just tell Jyson to call Jeff directly!

I am sure that your local store will get back to you within a few days. What they have been experiencing is that part numbers are not transcribed correctly into english from Italian. It should not take all that long of a time, especially if you CAP your information in the body of your email, since I did the same thing and spoke with the representative of the warehouse today because a simple part for my MP3, they had 11 of those parts in stock. I will have my awaited part ordered 4 months ago next week.

Guess my karma is getting better, especially since they have lots of MP3 parts in the warehouse. just takes nerve to speak up.

Jyson will be back at work Wednesday. that's 07/29/09

Anyone know where to just get the key portion cut. I don't really care about the black portion that pops the seat. I just want an extra key to unlock the rear boot.

Can I just go to a locksmith to get this cut?

Call your local locksmith and ask if they cut "Laser/sidewinder keys"

If not:

Keys are $20.00 plus whichever postage option you pick, there is no charge to cut and clone your key.

If you already have a key then just pay return postage mate

I personally have cut over 9,000 MP3 keys so i might be able to help you too

Cheers

call Vespa of San Diego and speak with Steve, the mechanic, because he knows where the keys are made in San Diego County.

BTW, Steve only works Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

you need your master key,the red one, and a black one, the slave key in order to be programmed. There is no other key, the master key will open the trunk, but it will not open the seat, you can do that without a key, I mean just in case you locked your keys in the seat.
Steve can inform you of what ecactly is needed.

Actually mate. I am one of two locksmiths that i know who has after market keys for our scooters. They have no buttons and many prefer to use it.

Many members on this board are using them

I offer this service due in part to availability of the keys and also the lack of smaller locksmith shops having a sidewinder machine.

Cheers

Are you saying that the key must be cut with a laser?

Is "Sidewinder" the type of key?

Thanks

I bought a blank for £40 from a UK dealer. None of the local locksmiths seem to have the right equipment to cut this key.

Seriously - send it to jimh in the US for cutting, along with your key code and/or a photo of the original key.

I expect there are auto-locksmiths here who can do it - but we haven't yet found any apparently.

Thanks Jim.

Yes mate please send me your keys all your paying for is postage. I have cut lots of keys for members and no-members in the UK.

I am still shocked when folk ask me what is MV?

Locksmiths......
I know there must be locksmiths in and around London who cut sidewinder keys. Considering Audi, bmw Mb have use this style of key for almost 20 years.

As far as the name sidewinder and laser is a term for the blanks and key machine that we use.

If your locksmith screws up your remote key don't throw it away.

I can salvage it and replace the blade

Cheers

My recommendation would be to send it to jimh as well. I was a weanie when my kids misplaced my remote key and all I had was the master. I ordered a key from jimh but let a local guy who cuts BMW and other keys that use the sidewinder key cutter. He did his best and it works about 80% of the time but you can immediately see that the cut is much wider than the Piaggio which also has tighter curves. If I had spent the money for the remote no way would I let the local guy do it again. Nothing against him - he really did his best. But the key will be at least $100 if they screw it up....

As I understand jimh gets keys from all over the world. Just insure it for the price of the key and replacement of the master should it get lost.

Thanks mate 8)

Yes sadly many locksmith can and do screw up the key, i have a wee collection that members have sent.

Here is the skinny, I am scooterist too. I am a locksmith who enjoys helping out people. And i offer this service mainly because we are a community. I could charge you considering the some-what limited options.

If you what to pay $10.00 to have your key cut then do so. But times are tough for many folk so who/what would i be?

Whilst i might have your attention: The key codes?

The piaggio code card DE**** is very important. If you don't have it either trace/scan your key or take a good digital picture for safe keeping.

The Electronic code is your RFID identification I supply this code to all members in the event all keys are lost, a new can be originated.

And finally, this is the most common question i get... "Do i still need to program the key"

There is no programming after i have cut and cloned your key. 8)

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Jim
