I was sure that I read a thread already that explained how to add the 'scooted map' to your profile. But I must have impaired searching skills because I can not find it.

Help please.

After you get your image ready and sized, upload it to one of your posts (you can use this thread if you like) using the attachment option as usual.*

Once it's uploaded and in your post, right-click (or control-click) on the image to bring up a contextual menu. One of the options will be "copy image location" or something like that.

Then you can edit your profile and add something like:
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

And thanks to Jess for explaining it to me that way. 8)

*If you're not sure what "as usual" means, It means use the "Add an Attachment" field at the bottom of the screen when you post. I usually edit my image and put it on the desktop. Use browse to select the image...if it's the wrong extension or size, the image won't show when you preview your post. (There is a link there too about allowed extensions and sizes.) You may have to play a bit to get everything the size you want it.

Are you asking about the web-site to create your map?

Or have you already got a map and need help posting the image?

I think you
1) post it, as you have
2) view your post and right click on the image you posted
3) select "copy image location"
4) and then paste that link in your profile

hope that helps!

Right click your map image and select properties. The image location should show in one of the boxes. At least, that worked for me.

Sure, Why not?

Last year I found myself just a few miles from the Georgia border. I was going to make a very quick side trip just over the line so I could add it to my map but I decided not to. I didn't seem right. (OK, I was really really tired.)

I just didn't want to just strike a narrow chord over a state line and say I've been there.

So I came up with amusingly loosely defined set of minimum conditions I wanted to satisfy before I colored a state in, aside from putting in a lot of miles crossing over it.

I decided that at the very least, I would have to satisfy one of these conditions:
1)Spend some reasonable amount of time there (Reasonable=X...I'll know how long is enough after I've been there Razz emoticon )
2)Have a meal there
3)Buy something there. Shot glasses with the state name on them are as good as a passport stamp to me.

So that's my plan and I'm sticking with it, until I can think of a better one.

PS: Let's not start the inevitable debate over what "counts." Everyone make their own rules, or no rules. If it's good enough for you, it's good enough for me. It's all in fun.

Apparently this is something that is hard to do in IE7.

Not quite, half way there. How do I get the maps to be included at the bottom all of all my posts????

I am using Linux, followed Menhir's instructions and all seemed to work fine. Admittedly I am technology challenged. Will continued to work on this.

Anyway, nice to see everyone's maps.

Click "Profile" at the top menu bar to access your MV profile. Then add the map code that you put in your post into the "Signature" box. That will add it to the bottom of all your posts.

The image addresses you are looking for are:

https://modernvespa.com/pix/uploads/scooted_canada_345.jpg
https://modernvespa.com/pix/uploads/scooted_usa_171.jpg

You need to modify your signature line (hit the Profile link above) and enter something like:

For the record, it's not easy, but it's not impossible, either. Right click on the image. A box opens on your screen. At the bottom of that box is a button that says, "Properties." Click on that and you'll get another box of gobbledygook. See it? In the middle of the box it says "Address:" To the right of that is the URL of the image you want. Place your cursor in the text of that URL. The URL will look something like this
"http://weblog.sinteur.com/wp-
content/uploads/2006/12/motorhome.jpg"
for example. It will most likely be split into two lines, just like I've presented it here. You need both lines to get the entire address or it won't work.

To do this, you need to mark all that text and copy it. For me, this is the trickiest part of the whole operation. I've found that the best way to go is to first locate your cursor somewhere in the address by clicking somewhere, it doesn't matter where, inside the address. Then triple-click and the entire URL should be highlighted. If that doesn't work, then place your cursor over the first character of the address, depress the left button and hold, and drag your cursor down and to the right until the entire address is highlighted. Let go of the left button (without moving the mouse) and right click on the highlighted address. A box will open. Choose "Copy" and you're done.

The address of the image (the so-called "URL") will now be on your clipboard ready to paste into your sig or wherever you want.

Believe it or not, I do this so often that it seems simple and straightforward to me, but I'm about a hundred years behind the monkeys, so what do I know? Seriously, this is a super-duper handy thing to know how to do, so give it a try and see if you can work through it.
