Use a filler type wax or acrylic. This will hide the swirls if you don't want to use a proper polish to remove them.

Autoglym Super Resin Polish fits into this category, as does Meguiars NXT.

And keep the swirl marks out by not washing or waxing in circular motions.
You want to wash and wax in straight back and forth motion NOT circular motion.

Sorry Wayne but I beg to differ . Back and forth washing will produce swirls. Even linear marks look like circles in bright sunshine. Something to do with reflection/refractivity. God knows, I'm not a physicist.

Best way to prevent swirls is to wash off thick dirt with running water and then use a two bucket method. One soapy and then one of clean water for rinsing off your wash mitt before going for more soap again. I'm not that anally retentive and would't buy black for that very reason.

I had the same deal, the scooter was one huge swirlmark!

This is what I did.

First up I used a rubbing compound (like T-cut).

Then I used Turtle Wax Black Box, it's a system specifically made for black finishes.

Black Box is three products, first there is a cleaner wax, tinted black, this fills all the little nicks in the paintwork with black pigment.

You put this on and then clean it off with the black tinted detailing spray.

Then there is a black tinted carnauba wax, you put this on and then rub it off, then finish again with the detail spray.

It comes up very well.

I went one step further and did like 4 coats of Meguiars NXT 2.0, that stuff is wonderful.

It fills and hides anything that may be left over.

This is it in the pic, after the polish at Amerivespa.

It's a shame I dropped it last week.....

I used to hav a black Bronco II and had the same issue. I found a product at the local auto paint supply made by 3M called Finishing Cream. You use it just like a liquid car wax.. Never had a swirl mark issue again. Oh and to eliminate the dust problem on black vehicles, try puting a bounce anti static dryer sheet in the bucket of soapy water and wash your scoot as normal. It cuts the surface static on the scooter and keeps the dust to a minimum.

Ues pleadge yes the kind you would use on a table. its the best and easy. if you must wax use insulator wax. you won't regret it. also use a micro fiber towel. make sure paint is cool to touch and not in the sun.

That would be true for color sanding. and for that you should use soft scrub.

Buff Me
I'm with Doug on this one. Mequires and Autogylm are the way to go.

I've used pretty much most of the polishing products out there on all kinds of cages and bikes/scoots and these two are easily the best.
The only thing that comes close is Harley Wax. It's 100 % Carnuba.

Hit it with a liquid clay bar if you are getting swirls in the clear coat, then apply a carnuba wax. For regular weekly polishings, use Turtle Wax Ice on the whole bike.

I LOVE dragon red, it shows little dirt and is easy to keep clean looking. I use a wax gel and is applied on the cloth that you use to dry the scooter after washing, so in fact, you're waxing as you're drying so there isn't any extra work.

the best wax in the world is Collinite, its not cheap but its is the best

its not a liquid wax its solid until put on a cloth and lasts a whole year

you can use it on all parts of your Vespa, body, rubber, chrome, fly screen and plastics
also it dosent leave any dust when buffing the wax off like most do

it was recommended to me and I would recommend it to others

Collinite No.476S Super Double Coat wax is the permanent car wax.

Without doubt Collinite 476 is the most durable car wax we have come across. It doesn't smell great but once you see just how good the results are and how easy to apply you will forgive it that. Buffing of is also childs play and the results look absolutely stunning. It adds depth to solid colours whilst not muting the flake on metallics.

Super Double coat paste wax #476 is a Carnauba based wax packaged in a tin that looks like it belongs in the 50's. Don't let that fool you though this is one of the finest waxes on the market. It is a true paste wax and contains absolutly no cleaners so by applying multiple thin layers you leave a finish which is more durable than not just any wax, but just about any sealant on the market.

Infact Collinite #476 is so durable that the manufacture claims one application will last a full 12 months come rain, snow and sun! This is the it's true forte. Somehow Collinite have managed to manufacture a wax so extremely durable it becomes the ideal choice all year round protection. All this makes Super Doublecoat #476s a very popular choice for winter, throwing off the worst weather with ease.

Wet clear finish
Carnauba based paste wax
No cleaners
Very very durable (the most durable car wax on the planet?)

Well that's fine also...

But with two small children and a wife that works whenever I don't there is a lot of time I am stuck in the house looking at my parked GTS....

So it's maintain the scooter or watch telletubbies.

I looked Turtle Wax Ice up on the internet and found that ATU has the exclusive distribution in Germany.

So I went over and got a bottle for 15 Euros ($21.00)

I went home, washed with hot water, Mr. Proper (Mr. Clean) and Palmolive Dish soap using a micro fiber cloth. I didn't rise the scooters since the hot water basically dried within a minute.

Then I applied the ICE with the sponge applicator... first one scooter... then the other - to everything except headlight, tires and seat. Made sure it dried for about five minutes... and then used the micro fiber cloth (included) to wipe off the ICE. Total time for the GTS 300 and BVC 500 was about 30 minutes start to finish including wash

WOW!! FANTASTIC!!

If you haven't tried ICE, you don't know what you are missing!!

It is fantastic stuff, but I still recommend using a carnuba wax a few times a year for a hard base layer. ICE is great for the weekly stuff and its awesome to have use it on the plastic and chrome.

Why wax
Why wax when you can ride? I only have waxed my bike once or twice in 3 years and it looks great, I do clean it with water and soap every few month or so.

"...washed with hot water..."

If you live anywhere road-salt or other like stuff gets on you bike, avoid hot water when washing...it makes the stuff even more corrosive.

Waxing tip: go to you local fabric store and buy a few yards of white cotton flannel. Take it home and wash it once...then tear off what you need when it comes time to wax.

softest stuff around, and cheap.

What I really like about ICE is that you don't have to spend a lot of time trying to wipe dried paste residue from around badges, between chrome letters, or other rough areas.
It really cuts down on waxing time so you have more riding time.
