Okay so I've been reading this post with a great deal of interest, that was until the proposed route was mentioned. There are a great many folk on here who happen to live north of Watford gap. So what about something a litle further afield. How about a round Britain run? Those who want to can complete the entire circuit, those that don't can ride a few miles and between them complete the run in relays as it were.
The A1 runs from London to Edinburgh then acroos country and back down the west coast

I agree that the south coast route is not fair on those north of the Watford gap. However we have to consider that most on this thread have specified a weekend, 2-3 days because of work commitments. We also ahve to consider the 50's and 125's. The south coast might be a large enough challenge for them. I am reasonably sure it will prove impossible to please all parties however I would like to try. It would be nice to have a large turn out, especially for such a good cause.

Maybe if you could come up with a route and schedule Dave, everyone can give their thoughts.

There is also the possibility of doing the South Coast run and then if all goes well, those who enjoyed it and wanted to repeat it could do the Lands End to john o'groats run. I would be up for both.

Marc

Or 2 events as suggested by someone with sharper wits than I.

Any idea on which weekend you're looking at yet or is it too far off?

I can't do the weekend starting Friday 27th Aug 2010 as that's the Broadsmens Invasion of Belgium.

There is an embroiderer near me, who can do patches, t-shirts, polo shirts and fleeces etc. I use him for all my business stuff and he is a customer of mine, he is also formerlyof the Armed Forces, he was in the Falklands. http://www.absembroidery.co.uk/

I am sure he will do us a deal for Help for Heroes.

I mentioned it to David yesterday but as nothing was firmed up he couldn't really say if he was in or not.
His wife has just had a baby too so other things on his mind at the moment.
I will try my best to twist his arm into coming.
My youngest brother may also be interested as he should have his new GTS125 Super by then.

The M27 around Portsmouth will present the only problem for the 50/125cc crew. Looks like they/we will have to go through the city. Wha? emoticon

All the rest is going to be a doddle. 8)

On another note, has anyone thought how the sponsorship side of things is going to work?

I would like the sponsorship to work something like this. Everyone who signs up to be in the ride pays a minimum of £50.00 sponsorship and sorts out their own cost for fuel, accommodation and any additonal cost.

If you choose you can then raise more sponsor money and add this to the total.

If we get 20 people that's £1000.00 straight away. I will buy any badges, patches, t-shirts, caps and sell them on for a small profit which will also count towards the total.

I will also see if I can get some sponsorship from business's etc. I am quite good at that sort of thing.
Nerd emoticon

Whoever puts in the most miles should get a special patch and the respect of all MV'ers.

Question, would any money raised be going straight to a charity or would some be available to subsidise petrol ect. not that I am attempting to sponge money just that as a student I am poor

still looking on enthusiastically but these are some long distances

As a forces familly (and i will most probably be joining up to) help for Heroes gets my vote.

How many 125ers are L-platers?
I would have no problem with motorway stints but in the name of inclusiveness (sp?/making words up?) I'll do what I'm told.

The Gosport Ferry takes motorbikes - that would be a groove!

Some of the X9 forumites might be interested, unless we want to stick with the low-cc theme?

On the subject of MoD, I know a few people in the army and MoD who might be able to help out in terms of photo ops in London & surrounds.
I'll put the word out and see what they say.

Incidentally, I have a mate who is a greandier guardsman and (when not in Afghanistan) does the whole trooping the colour/ bearskin/ guarding the palace business... Could be a good photo op??
