Modern Vespa

After a service I notice that my MP3 suspension lock is working slightly differently:

It used to be possible to cruise along at about 5mph with the lock on. (Yes I know that this is a dangerous & stupid thing to do) - however after the 1000km service it's slightly different. Even the slightest rev... enough to get the wheels rolling automatically disengages the lock.

I guess Piaggio responded to somebody's safety concerns by changing the firmware... or did I just imagine this?

No, it is fixed, that is how it is suppose to work. You hit a small pot hole rolling along at 5 mph with the suspension locked and the scooter is going to topple right over. You are lucky they fixed it.

I agree - it's pretty stupid to drive with the suspension locked. I honestly cannot think why anybody would want to do that unless they are fooling about. It's definitely a better ride now that the suspension cannot be engaged until the bike has virtually stopped.

My brother in law has a 2006 MP3 125 (one of the very first ever imported to the UK) and his is similar to how mine used to be. I do not think he's ever taken his to an authorized service centre, hence the computer firmware never got updated on his.

God help the poor sap who buys it off him eventually then.

Actually this is his 4th bike in 5 years - the last 3 were all stolen.

Oh, well in that case, serves the moron right who steals it from him!
