Can anybody point me to a service shop near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia?

We're on day 4 of an 8 day trip and are needing a new rear tire for R's GTS250. Tonight we are in Roanoke, and expect to get to the northern end of the parkway tomorrow, then head back to Chattanooga. Sure would like to put some better tread on his scoot - especially with so much rain forecast for the next few days.

Thanks, Starreem, for your quick reply. We sure were hoping to find something closer to the Parkway, though. A detour to Richmond will add about 200 miles to our trip, and we are already behind schedule. Nobody closer that you are aware of?

Oh yes, much closer - thanks, Wayne! I"ll give them a call in the morning. Looking at their website, it seems that Vespa/Piaggio is a new product line for them. Have you dealt with them any?

Hey Wayne,
Looks like your tip is going to pan out. Called the Lynchburg shop and they are having a tire overnighted to install tomorrow. Thanks!

Dude, I just tried to do the Blue Ridge Parkway from Boone up into Virginia and it was a nightmare. The thing is closed at least every 10 miles for servicing, and the detours take you far out of your way. I went about 10 miles north only to come to a dead end and had to turn around at one point. It may be better south, but from Boone north was hell.

My trip here:

There, and (halfway) back again (Post 682512)

Btw, there is no gas available on the Parkway, so I bought a 1 gallon can for emergencies (in addition to my 30ml can) and bungied it. I suggest you do the same.

Wow, awesome photos and nice write-up. Too bad about the belt.

I think you just had the misfortune of riding the wrong section of parkway. There are two closed sections and they happen to be right in the area you rode. The marked detours routed us around them quite nicely. We started at the souithern end in Cherokee, NC and finished at the northern end yesterday - 3 days on the parkway. We'll ride a different route back home as we are a day behind schedule and can make better time on highways (no interstates for us, though).

I wish I would have gone south.... sigh.

Post some pics so I can see what I missed.

I'm planning to ride the parkway on my way up to Pennsylvania in August. Thanks for sharing your experience. For others considering here is information on road closures.

Crap, I started on the Parkway right near Blowing Rock, so I hit both of those closures. The first one has a detour, but the second one takes you 11 miles or so up the Parkway and dead ends at this park, where you have to turn around.

Btw, that 1 gallon gas can I bought has a lever on it that you depress with your thumb to pour gas after you twist the nozzle around. It doesn't leak at all, and was a handy addition. Look for one if you need a better can.

Great ride, huh? Did it to and from last year's AmeriVespa. Anyone riding it needs to watch for deer at all times of day, though. I saw lots and almost hit one.

You really don't need a gas can. There is gas nearby just off the parkway in most places. See this thread.

Speaking of gas - I got incredible fuel mileage on the Parkway - as high as 83 and 86 mpg. We usually did just a bit over the 45 mph speed limit, and had just as many ascents as descents. Perhaps it was due to the way the ride flows so nicely - no traffic lights or stop signs. Just go and go until you are ready to stop.

We didn't run into a dead end at all. Don't know why you did, unless a sign was misplaced. Both detours got us around the closed portions and right back up onto the Parkway.

The 45 mph speed limit gives you great mileage, plus you feel that you don't want to rush through it.

Back to the original topic that started this thread. Wayne B's suggestion to try Honda-Suzuki of Lynchburg was spot-on. A very efficient service department and friendly staff. Overnighted a tire for us and had it on the scooter within an hour of the tire's delivery - and at a more than fair price.
