any ideas on good soap or whatever to use against greasy hand/nails? Have a work function in 2 days and my hands don't look too good right now.

GOJO is good stuff. Most decent auto parts shops sell it.

Lava Soap

I like the liquid variety w/pumice, usually at hardware stores. Works better than the orange stuff and doesn't smell funky.

WD40 works but lately I've been using Simple Green (cheaper) since I use it on anything that has grease and grime on it. It's also bio-degradable. Then just wash up. Although I'm starting to grow a green tail. Hmmmm...

What I always use this method because it cleans very well, and is gentle.

1.) Before wetting hands rub one or two tablespoon of salad oil, such as canola, corn, or very cheap olive oil on your hand. Work it in well. This dissolves the grease.

2.) Rub about a tablespoon of liquid dishwashing on your hands, this will make an emulsion.

3.) Now wash them with water.

Adding some Granulated sugar with the washing up liquid works a treat.

Alright, i know some of you will laugh. My hands are generally covered in oil and grime.

I use soft scrub with bleach. It keeps my wife and kids happy.

You might even have some under your kitchen sink mate?

Cheers

cotton bud with a spot of dlluted bleach around the fingernails will remove all traces of oil and crud. follow up with lashings of hand cream. i actually do this before i visit my manicurist as i'm often embarrassed about the state of my hands

That's what I do.

I also have the bad habit of being a nail-bitter, so I never really get crap stuck under there since they're always so short. So, I recommend starting a bad habit. Razz emoticon

a little balsamic and you have a tasty salad dressing too...

I'll vouch for this one, but I have a tip. You can water this stuff way down and it still works. My uncle owns a shop and they usually just get a big bottle of it (think it comes in a liter) and toss it in a 5 gallon bucket and fill the rest with water. You dip your hands in the bucket, scrub, and then rinse in the sink. Change when you don't really feel the little granules on your hands anymore and/or when the bucket slurry gets too funky for comfort.

A few people made fun of my suggestion, and/or its presentation, but that method works pretty well, better than most of the things that almost all people have around the house--without the hazards of the others.

GoJo works fairly well, and is largely just a suspension/mixture of oil and detergents.

I tend to stay away from abrasive cleaner--unless I am working with body fillers, such as Bondo.

[Some years ago, when I was in CT/USA, I helped my brother change a transmission when it was below freezing. We had to pull the snow that had drifted under the car to get under the car. We could only work for a little while at a time, before our hands went numb from the cold, but when I could feel with them, I could feel every little painful speck of dirt and sand stuck to the metal--especially when swinging the cross-member in place under the rear transmission. Every time I see powdered clenser, I think back to that day.

Often when I go in for a checkup, I think back to when I used to use lacquer thinner to clean resin off of my hands.

When I see a burn victim, I think back to when I used to wash my hands in gas.]

Given that we know that petroleum causes cancer, wearing gloves might prevent your hands from getting greasy in the first place. Besides, everyone is doing it, especially the pros.

There is nothing better than good old dishwashing soap to get oil and grease off your hands. It works better yet on dishes.

i've been using kresto for several years now and i think it's great. it really beats the pants off fast orange and gojo orange and that crap that safetycleen sells by the gallon. it also doesn't reek something fierce, so when you hit the bar the girls don't inevitably scrunch their nose and ask: what's that smell.

anyway, the kresto has a low slovent content and crushed walnut shell as scrubbers so it's pretty gentle on the skin and with a nail brush it gets the job done stat. if you're looking for something 100% solvent free and a little easier on the hands then check out the kresto select or the solopol.

the best parts is that it's made by stoko here in the us http://stokoskincare.com

you can usually find it on ebay for about 30~40bux for the larger sizes. but don't freak out on the price, it lasts a LONG time because you don't use much at all.

as for more easily obtained cleaners, fast orange is good but it tears your skin up. i mean like, really dries it out and then it starts peeling. gojo power gold (which is an odd name because it's actually green) works really really well and has lanolin in it so your mitts don't take a beating but it freekin' reeks.

best,
-greasy
