I mean, if it's at the Isle of Wight rally, they're going to sell six billion tickets.
( i think that's probably the most populated rally on earth if you don't count the Ho Chi Minh rush hour traffic jams )

Still, gorgeous bike and you'd be the belle of the ball to show up at a rally on that baby. I don't know if any were ever imported here.

I mean ...the engine specs are just stupid. That's probably a $8k engine if you were to have someone make it for you. ( alright, maybe $4k for the blue stuff ....still, that's some top notch gear on there )

Mark Broadhurst TS1 stage 2 touring tuned.
MB 12v electronic ignition with strengthened flywheel.
MB TS1 Kevlar engine cowl. (to disperse the heat) MB reworked and
strengthened
GP race crank.
Mikuni 35mm carb.
Boysen race reed valve.
Taffspeed TS1 pipe made especially for this tuned
engine.

Taffspeed rear shock (one off)
Kawasaki adjustable front dampers.
SX200 gearbox.
Long range petrol tank.
Wide rear wheel.
90 MPH speedo.
original Golden Special green seat.
Special TS1 horncast badge.

Mate, i agree the entire set up is insane. And a small fortune too.

I have never seen a golden special this side of the pond, though a few silver.

Eric you need to take a second honeymoon to IOW rally mate.

I need get my arse home for awhile too.

Cheers

I'm an ex-resident of the UK... I'm buying tickets anyway. If I win and they moan about me turning up in a German-registered van to pick it up I'm gonna tell 'em balls Laughing emoticon The Taffspeed parts on that scooter came from my hometown

i bought a bunch of tickets too. however a scooter like that belongs with a true afficionado who will look after and store it properly - not sitting in my front garden in Hackney - so when i win it i'll be putting it up for sale. watch this space Razz emoticon

Genie if you win that bike and don't ride the shit out of it, i'm selling a scooter to have enough money to fly over there and slap you across the mouth.

A bike handbuilt by the MB folks? It should run without any work needed for a good long time. Plus, you can't walk 10 meters over there without tripping over a lambretta shop.

Is this a "limited edition" SX200 or is there more to it?

hmm.. not an SX. Granted, an SX WAS a special ( SX200 means "special X200" ), but a special is not necessarily an SX... if that makes sense.

With lambrettas you had your plain jane LI125 and LI150 ..the VNB and VBB of their lineup ..and they made like 150,000 of each.

Then you had your LI150 SPECIAL ( which had cooler sidepanels - the ones pictured ...often called "knuckleduster sidepanels" ). This had the same White and ( red/ green /blue ) color scheme as the LI150... but a faster gearbox.

They made a limited edition LI125 special and LI150 special ... the Silver special ( LI150 ) and Golden Special ( LI125 ). There was no difference in VIN or anything from the standard LI150 special. They just had a Silver or Gold badge on them, and the corresponding paint color. ( and bench seats as well, i forgot to mention that - LI125 and LI150 had saddles )

So, it's just a fancy, limited edition model. That alone is awesome ...but then this particular one is hopped up a bunch.

I will nitpick a little bit. My understanding is that Innocenti 150 Specials were only silver (and later gold when they introduced the silver and gold badging) from the factory. The early Specials are silver, but without the "silver" badge. Some may have been painted in colors by country specific concessionaires.

I'm also pretty sure both golden and silver Specials were 150 only. The 125 Special was a nice metallic blue (and possibly white), and had different badging from the other Li models.

Oh yeah... possible source for further model info: http://lcgb.co.uk/scooters/special.html

You know what - you're right about the 150 being both silver and gold. I don't know why i thought the 125 was gold.

It appears you're right on the colors ..... They were all silver or gold from the factory, but you could get red or blue panels?

"By the time production stopped in October 1966, a very respectable 69,529 150 Specials and 29,841 125's had been produced. With colours options of white or metallic blue for the 125's, the 150s were available in Silver or Gold from the factory, but as with other models Lambretta concessionaires offered a wider choice, these being green on white, with panel colours of red or blue."
