A few months ago someone suggested that we have a thread for cool/good/weird scooters for sale that we find....I'm all for it (mainly because with the economy we are really slow at work and I need something to do)

So found on scoot.net today with a link to fresno ebay.....

http://fresno.craigslist.org/mcy/1256950559.html

Bad ass.

It's been for sale for a while now..about 2-3 weeks. I HATE the fucking stickers scattered on such a nice scoot...BUT that thing rides like a bat outta hell. If I had the $ I would buy it.

You can get the 5 Speed upgrade here:

http://www.scooterworks.com/5-Speed_Transmission_Upgrade_P3957C210.cfm

I would do it if I had a 20-30hp P

Yeah...it's a kit you can buy from scooterworks.

1) It's not cheap

2) Past attempts to make a 5 speed gearbox have been met with a lot of failure. Largely because you have to make the individual gears smaller to fit in the same space... and you end up with gears that can't take the same amount of abuse as their larger 4-speed bretheren.

3) There's not a lot of people who have dropped the coin to go 5 speed since these new ones were released about 3 years ago... so there's not a lot of road testing on them. Rob Hodge ( formerly of scooterworks ) ran one for a long time, and he gave it good marks... but he also was working for scooterworks at the time.

4) It basically gives you a cruising gear so you can be doing 60mph and be at a really low RPM, versus your current situation where you're cruising at 60mph at a fairly HIGH rpm. It doesn't make your bike speedier or anything ...just gives it a place to rest at high speeds.

Well...if you have a lot of HP and you are winding out in 4th..it WOULD be nice to have another gear to go into.

If you have that much horsepower, perhaps consider getting the 8% overdrive kit. It changes your primary gear ratio.

Only downside is that you can't run it AND a cosa clutch.

Why would you want an overdrive gear? An overdrive gear just makes the engine turn slower than your axles. Your engine is turning slower at the same MPH, so you save gas. The only downside is that you don't have as much torque (acceleration when you hit the gas).

so just yesterday i was c-listing and fresh on the board was a 74 super, disasembled, all parts accountable for 650.

i call him at 10am and said i will come over after i take the family to the airport.

get the family off and running (what a circus,it never gets easier)and call the guy at 1;30pm to tell him i'm on my way.

he said a guy just left with it and was kinda pushing him to not wait for me(i was the first person to call and confirm p/u.

i told the kid no worries(he was bummed he did'nt wait for me.

he just moved from texas last week and his apartment here has no space for project.

i talked to him a little while cause i felt bad for him that he had to sell his project.

it had been in his family since new and he was doing a resto/rebuild

My scoot ate a Cosa clutch in a week.

Completely stripped the rivets off the basket and that was before I upgraded to the TMX35mm D-slide carb.

Not to start any thing but jimmy is pissed because the dude who bought it had no intention of riding it and just saw dollar signs where as jimmy would have bought it, put it back together, sooped it up, matt blacked the motherfucker and road it....I don't normally get annoyed by people buying them to spiff up a bit and resell but to buy and then turn around the next day and sell is just fucking tacky.

Can anyone tell me what pipe is on this bike?

Read his ad..."lost interest"...fucking liar. He's a snake that JUST bought this poor kids project that he couldn't finish and is now looking to make a quick buck off of it. Now if he would have put it together and restored it and put a price tag on it...maybe different. To me, this IS just some asshole that only cares about making money and could care fucking less about scooters period. There is a difference.

is it only bad because we all know what he paid for it? personally I wouldnt pay anywhere near 1000 for a disassembled 150 when i could get one (when i eventually come across it) for 1200 - 1500 running - ride the shxx out of it then take it to pieces once i killed it. Ive turned more bikes than I can count - granted all needed some level of work - some very very minor, others more severe - I dont try to get rich off selling bikes, I just like to help fund my hobby - any money ive ever made on bikes usually goes right back into pumping the economy of a local or mail order scooter shop!

i think simply put

he bought the bike

next day is selling the bike at twice the puchase, which is not near as bad as then telling people info on the bike that is not fact

if he posted the next day "one 74 super in peices, i bought this bike recently and know nothing about it" "everything appears to be there"
"i bought it in peices and selling as is"

but that is not how he posted which makes me then say, yes you could call him a liar Nerd emoticon

i'm not pissed he'sflipping the bike, i'm pissed he is next day telling people that the engine is rebuilt and he lost interest. period Nerd emoticon

Now that I can understand - at least be up front - i dont lie when i sell bikes - its too exclusive of a group that ride these things and would hate for it to bite me in the backside down the road.

Thought process:

I'd like an older scooter, a project bike.
Do I have the skills to restore it to original? No.
Could I do a cut down rat bike. Yes.
Would I do that to on a Vespa or Lambretta frame that someone might actually use as a platform to do a nice restore? No
Could i do that to a Bajaj? Hmmmm.

Opinions?

Looks like you'd just need 1 cowl and a tank in terms of body parts. Then some floor rails, a seat, electrics, engine, etc. But 300 for a mostly solid body which is already disassembled for your modifying pleasure doesn't seem bad.
