Ive got a plastic acorn assembly on my VNA but want to switch to the original, which Im a little confused about, I know there's a couple different types of these bar styles, but I haven't seen one with the whole bottom edge cut out. has this one been altered? what lens should I be looking for?

much thanks

Yeah, that's weird... i've never seen one like that where it's missing the lower part like that.

I mean, obviously you know there's a clear lens on the bottom, and the big red lens... but i've never seen it like that before.

And yeah, there were basically 2 different allstate bar-style taillight lenses. The early ones ( early 50's ) were really long and thin. Also, most didn't even have a brakelight - just a tail light.

Good luck with the electrical on those ( particularly since i see yours has been completely painted over ). Those bulb holders are not fun.

Looks like a previous owner cut out his own LP light hole, cause I dont see any holders for a horizontal bulb? but theres a harware spring to hold down the bottom lens so now Im confused.

Im trying to visualize where do the leads connect on these bulb holders, at the tip of the tail?

How was the quality of the original lenses any ideas where I can source one?
Otherwise would these lenses fit?

Yeah...if i remember correctly, the things that hold the bulbs themselves are the grounds... these need to have good electrical connection to the 2 screws that bolt the taillight to the frame.

But the tip of the bulb ( where positive voltage is applied ) is contacted by a piece of metal that is attached to the ground portion, but electrically isolated with a paperish buffer piece. Then the wire with juice from the harness attaches to that somehow.

Remember that there's NO ground wire on the harness to attach to that taillight. It's stupid, but they just used the frame ground and didn't run a redundant one from the wiring harness like later taillights.

and yeah, i think those scooterworks lenses are correct. THINK... i don't know that i ever ordered those from them.

and yeah, the clear lens is held in place by a spring... and there's sorta bendable metal clips that hold the red lens under tension. I can't really see if yours are present in the pic.

It is a REALLY primitive design.

So is there no hookup for a festoon bulb on this then?

I have an LML engine 12v, which does have a ground wire going to the tail, is there a logical way to retrofit it? Any idea what size pilot bulbs Ill need?

Thanks again for the help..

No, both bulbs are bayonet style. I believe both are the 1157 style bulbs.

This one : http://www.scooterworks.com/Bulb_12_volt_10_watt_pilot_P1870C460.cfm

and this one, i believe : http://www.scooterworks.com/Bulb_12_volt_5_watt_pilot_P1871C460.cfm

5 watt for the taillight, 10 watt for the brakelight.

I have a 58 Vespa
The taillight on my 58 does not have a cut-away like that....there are two openings that are separate...one for the license plate and one for the taillight.
