I once once parked my Moto Guzzi California in a small alley in town. I was just coming up to the alley when I heard the alarm go off. I ran round the corner expecting to find people stealing my bike but instead found a young Indian child and his father both terrified by the alarm and then again by me charging round the corner. In this particular case I felt a little guilty and let the kid sit on the saddle and rev the engine. It made the kid's day but I did warn the father that it wasn't a good idea to let him sit on other people's bikes in future.
Handled situation very well...

About six months ago i woke up and decided it would be a nice day for a ride. I go to get on my scoot and some one had melted blue plastic and dripped it on to my scooter seat. At the time i had only had it for six months...i freaked out. I started looking around and i noticed a blue bick lighter on the ground 3/4 of the way melted. I live in the downstairs apartment so i look up at the balcony above me and there is what looks like hardened blue plastic running down the handrail and the side of the balcony. So i go up stairs to invetigate and it looked like someone must have gotten the lighter to stay lit until it just started melting.

At the time we had new nieghbors that moved into the apartment upstairs and they had a 14 year old son whom i suspect had something to do with it. I was able to slowly pick off the plastic bits without damaging the seat. Amazingly the seat wasn't damaged at all so i just let it slide and from then on kept it covered at all times when not riding. If it would have been ruined i don't know what i would have done as i did not see who actually did the evil deed. What the hell is wrong with people?

If people really are out to get you then technically you aren't paranoid.

In all seriousness though, I've worried about this happening so often. Never had a problem, but I could see it happening. The closest thing I've gotten was people stopping to look at it (walking around it/looking under it/etc.). That makes me chuckle.

P.S. does anyone know where I can find the above sticker?
On the side of my scoot!! Razz emoticon I picked one up from the guy selling them at AmeriVespa, and I stuck it to a magnet, along with other stickers that are mounted on magnets. Granted I will take them off if I have to park in a place where they might be taken... I tried to find the thread where those stickers went through some changes and different versions , I think the guy who had a bunch made up, is one of the posters in that thread.. wish I could find it..

strangers & scoots
The only time I had this problem was when I would ride my scoot to work. Unfortunately my current work prevents me from riding to work now (company truck). When I had my lammy I always would get kids running up & getting on slamming the locked forks & playing w/switches. The real problem w/the lammy was that is that my turn signals would stay on all day & I'd have to push start my scoot at night. Luckily all the switches on my s150 only activate when the scoot is on. I've been on other sites where some scooterist's would get into some real vespa bashing, too slow, overpriced, too small....... I think some of them really wanted a wasp but it was financially out of their reach. These might be your vandals. There's not a lot of wasp's in my town but plenty of metros, vinos & maxi's. Half the bikers will do the left hand wave under the handlebars when passing me (mostly hogs & goldwings). I've never been waved by the ninjas & sadly my fellow scooterist's. I mostly park in high visibility areas. If I could ride to work I'd definitely get a cover.

I seriously doubt that other people who ride would mess with someone's bike.

Eh...
You need to wave first--some of these folks require training

(But do take it easy on the newbies on scooters & ninjas...
We don't want them to fall off their bikes trying to wave back)

strangers & scoots
I tried to find a post on youtube where some jerk deliberately backs a pick up into a parked gt. Then gets out to admire his handy work. don't know if it was stolen or a frustrated owner but there are people out there call me paranoid or a cynic if you wish. I'm a recreational rider not by choice. when I park some where I always maintain a visual. At the movies my wife gets embarrased but we park up in front of theater on sidewalk other bikes park there and nothing so far has happened. As for the wave I do wave 1st. I actually rode up next to a riva months back gave a friendly toot & wave. the guy turned looked at me no expression and then turned off. I've seen a few wasps driving at work but never while riding so I don't know how the Lubbock vespisti react to each other. there's supposed to be a scooter club in Lubbock but they have no website. If anypne knows send me info.

Mate it's going to get touched and there's really not a lot you can do about it without shelling out some dough and that still doesn't guarantee anything. I would suggest the cheapest and most effective thing to do is get a cover as many have suggested. So far here's a list of the things that have happend to my Vespa and I've only had it for 7 Months. No alarm would have helped, but a cover sure would have:
Cigarette burn on my floorboard because some noob flicking it over his balcony
Long thin scratch on the left side panel because some idiot parked to close to my bike with his
Fuel line yanked and cut by some FCUK head trying to steal fuel

Second this recommendation. Get a generic one, without "Vespa" printed on the outside.
I cover mine when I leave it for a long time.
