Hi,
I finally got my Vespa scooter! Yay! It is a 2007 GTS in a dragon red flavor. I am having so much fun riding this little beastie around town! I am also one of those that needs to name their vehicles. I decided to call my gts "red five." Bonus points for those who know what that is from! Nerd emoticon

My first couple of rides were a bit nervous, but once I started getting comfortable with the way the scoot handles it has become a bit easier.

I find riding to be very relaxing (I think it is the constant scanning for other drivers, looking ahead for my next move that does not let my mind wander). Usually I'm grinning under my helmet while singing "vespa vespa" at stop lights! (thanks rex!)

Only problem is that I tried to scratch my nose at a stoplight not realizing I had my helmet on. Laughing emoticon

I know that this thread is worthless without pictures so I included a few of me riding up to the Mall. As you can see below I am a big fan of Hi-Viz!

Ready to roll!

Talk to ya later!

Thanks for the warm welcomes!! This is a great place to hang out and have fun!

Yep, Red Five is Luke's call sign for the attack on the Death Star. I am a big star wars fan.

Not looking forward to sneezing in the helmet, could be messy!

Trust me, you will sneeze in your helmet, and there is nothing you can do about it except hope that the snot-rockets don't spatter too much.

Great scoot and riding clothes.

I havealways thought that someone could do an R2D2 scooter with the shape of the front of a Vespa. Ever thought of "theming" your scoot to something from Star Wars?

Not if you have a Modular full face like my Nolan N-102... I have had to flip that up real quick to avoid sneezing in my helmet... Clown emoticon

How did you get the color scheme extended to the wheels, etc. Did you post a mod 'how I did it' somewhere on another thread?

Awesome scooter a big congrats to you. I personally think the green is more high viz than orange. BTW the TNG Star Trek series is the best. Who ever did the casting should be real proud of themselves because i can't imagine any other people playing those roles. Scott Bakula was a poor choice for captain. Never could get into that series. I'd say have fun with your scooter but you already are, so keep on keeping on Clown emoticon

Great looking scoot, but then I may be prejudiced to Dragon Red. I wear an axis-yellow RF1000 helmet, but your lime-green helmet and jacket really stand out.

Wow! That would be cool but I don't have that kind of talent. If anything I could just add some styrofoam wings and pretend it's an x-wing!

Thanks Judy and I agree completely with you on the next generation casting. After the first season that show really took off. Enterprise was a disappointment. Deep Space Nine. Now THAT was an really good series once Worf joined the cast and the dominion wars started. Never got into Voyager. I gave it an honest chance and while I did like her as captain the show just never got off the ground. I can't complain about seven of nine!

Thanks BeerNuts! The jacket is an Olympia Moto Sport airglide 2 mesh jacket. Very comfortable and has armor in the shoulders and elbows and a back pad. Link to the jacket:

The helmet is a Scorpion EXO-700 in neon. here is a link to a web bike world review of the helmet:

BleuBelle here is a link to that awesome dechromed Vespa:
The de-chroming of my 2009 GTS250ie

I was at work today just thinking all day about getting home and hopping on the scooter and meeting the wife at the kids swim practice. I made it to the practice, answered a few questions about the scoot then rode home at dusk. I am happy that I was able to get my scooter fix in tonight! Yay!

Congratulations and Welcome to Modern Vespa!

If you're wondering...we can see you very well! I'm a big supporter of high visibility. I wear the high visibility orange vest (military spec) when I ride.

Itching nose...scratch attempt with helmet on...done that!

BTW would suggest MSF course, pick up Proficient Motorcycling (D. Hough) and rent Ride Like a Pro (Smartflix). Ride Like a Pro is for MC's but the techniques you will learn will be beneficial in riding your scoot.

Have Fun!

Yes, BleuBelle; I designed the stripes based on those found on my Nolan N102 Secret Edition, bought a 14" x 36" sheet of black reflective striping material, printed out my designs onto paper from AutoCadd, then spay adhesived the back of the paper and stuck it to the sheet of material. Cut everything out, applied to the fenders and the wheels then put a coating of Clear Coat over them to keep rags from snaging on the sharp points.
Strick beat me to providing a link to my huge write up on all I did. I have received several questions as to how I did this or that, since I did not put a complete how to on much of any of the project, as it was more of a heres what I did than how I did it. But I am glad to answer any questions.

Congrats, you have just joined a great adventure.
It is addicting, and it will branch out into a lot more fun. There are a lot of facets in the riding expierience. I have an 07 GTS, am celebrating today, just got it back from the dealer for 6000 mi check. You can get withdrawls with out it.
Congrats on the journey
