Usually when a topic gets kicked off the board I let it go, since that can sometimes ignite chaos if it was a dramatic ordeal.

But, this time, I'm too curious. WTF happened? If PMing would be better that's cool.

Eric, sorry if this isn't appropriate. Delete away, if you feel the need.

Good question!

1) I don't know. Threads don't get deleted on this forum. If there's a bad thread, moderators move it to a "thread graveyard" where we can see it, but you can't.

2) There's no "who are you?" thread in the thread graveyard, which means it's likely a moderator had nothing to do with it being gone

3) I've asked to make sure nobody accidentally deleted it

4) It could be some weird database fluke for all i know... i'll find out.

*edit* ok ..appears I couldn't find it either, but it's still here...so, no biggie.

Yeah, I just found it. I even did a search and nothing came up. Weird.

It wouldn't let me go there from my notification email saying someone responded to it.

Thanks.

Fyi :

very few threads actually get deleted. The thing the mods will do most often is hide the offensive content posts in a thread from view.

That way when YOU view the thread, they appear to be gone ...but i can actually see them, and they are all highlighted in red.

I think I speak for all when I suggest that it would be more enjoyable, and faster if all of the nastiest bits were highlighted in RED.

Why use emoticons when you can just link pictures. This does better than a flame emoticon anyday.

I've been actively reading this forum for about 3 years now. There has to be some gold in that graveyard. Laughing emoticon

eh... if you want to sort through it.

Most of it is "oops - i double posted a thread"

or "GOLD WATCHES! FAKE ROLEX! V11AGARA!!"

kinda shit.

It would be like sorting through some oldster's attic for something cool. You'd mostly find old greeting cards.

Wield your power to create a "Best of" Thread Graveyard.

Some of the stuff that has been removed was pretty funny in an offensive kind of way.

Time heals all wounds, let's take a moment to look back and laugh together... Razz emoticon

Well, skimming over the first page or so, most threads that have been deleted in the last couple months that weren't spam or an accidental double thread were because they were from a poster here named "Wavefish", who was basically using MV to funnel people over to his own crappy forum to talk about MP3's.

When it became obvious he was a twat ( and he signed up under multiple accounts after they banned the "wavefish one ), they just moved all his crap to the graveyard.

That's a somewhat typical occurrence.... and it gives you some idea of what stuff DOES go into the dustbin here. It's far from the perception that every other thread gets deleted due to content or whatever. Frequently, posts on the modern side trend political, however, and have to be excised to filter out that content. They would probably get left and ignored, but there's a lot of folks over there who get offended and report posts to the mods, and so action must be taken. There's some more sensitive folks over there, and so more invasive moderation is required.

Not our side though. *hands behind head and feet on desk* You kids is good.

Who has time to think about politics when you're lying on your back on the hard ground with grease under your fingernails and gasoline dripping in your eye?

Besides, I save my political rants for the NY Times blogs - people's responses tend to be long, but are all civil, not like those rubes at the Washington Post.

Well, there's far less "technical" things to talk about with modern bikes. That's not to say there COULDN'T be more technical things... ( and there's certainly some small percentage of those threads that are technical ). It's a far more varied demographic in there... so topics span a much larger gamut. I find that side of the forum to be far more 'lifestyle' topics than technical ones.

It's hard to turn technical threads into political conversations, but i guess now that i've mentioned it, someone's going to try.

Back in the late 50's and early 60's a bunch of us from my home town used to throw a "Millard Fillmore Day" beach party in South Hampton, Long Island. We'd do it the weekend following July 9th, the day he became president. After all, he was a New Yorker, and a myth had been generated that he installed the first bath tub in the White House. What better excuse to drink, party and swim?

Did it for about 7 years, until there weren't enough of us living in the area to sustain it.

What a guy he was.........

How disappointing, The disappearance of the "Who are you" thread,
I didn't think it would cause any controversy when I started it.

Edit:
Nevermind, Just saw it's still here.

You are so right. Yesterday the Post ran an article about a guy I knew from my time as a Coast Guard lawyer. He was killed by lightning while running on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was a great guy: a lifetime public servant and Sunday School teacher.

Of the first 12 comments, 8 of them were mean lawyer jokes or comments that you have to be a fool to be out in a thunderstorm.

Maybe the mods can mirror it to a back-door url that's off the blocker's radar...
