Hi, I'm changing my rear tire and everything is off except the swing arm (and wheel). I wiggle and pry but can't seem to budge the swing arm bering
from the axel. I took off the two swing arm bolts.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

I guess I don't know why you are removing the swing arm?
If your intent is to change the rear tire, check this.

Thanks for the good link. I am doing a tire change.
That swing arm is on the axel really tight. Maybe I'll let some WD-40 work it's way in.???

Aloha MAUI. I would WD-40 anything you need to get off that's tight. Our beautiful salt spray does wonders for nuts, bolts and everything else Works better than locktite (sp) Good luck.

Try a large puller as a last resort, but first:

Swing arm removal on GT200

A flat bar can help, too.
Clean the shaft up after it's apart and give a wipe with copper grease (or something like that) before reassembly.

good luck

Hey Judy! Alas we never met as the Inter-island Super Ferry is no more. Please give my best to John. I think I need some sort of gear puller for my axel problem. I just put 10,000 miles on my scooter last year! 10,000% fun miles, haven't dropped her once. I'm getting a German Shepherd Puppy Dog in a few months and plan on him riding in a special seat behind me. I'll post some pics when this happens. Cheers Judy! Stay safe!
Aloha,
Chris

A matter of semantics here. Vespa calls the trapeze contraption the motor/transmission is hung onto the "Swinging Arm". They call the part in question the "Suspension Arm".

This is, of course what anybody with any knowledge of motorbikes would call a "Swing Arm" as that is its name. The "Swinging Arm" of Piaggio nomenclature should probably be called the "Rotating Engine Hanging Doohickey".

Thanks Paul G. Didn't know what that "doohickey" was called.

As with any seized components, tap both components, in this case the inner bearing race and the driveshaft, with a mallet, lightly at first. You can focus the taps with a punch or old screwdriver. Then apply a penetrating oil like WD-40 or PB blaster. If you have to pry against the wheel, wrap the tool in a rag or something else to avoid marring the wheel.
