Every penny donated will go towards 'HELP FOR HEROES' please donate here with Just Giving. If you would like to donate offline thsi can be arranged please contact myself. marc-moore@hotmail.co.uk

Help For Heroes :

Help For Heroes was the idea of Appeal Chairman Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations, many of who have connections with serving servicemen and women. Bryn and his wife Emma wanted to do something to help the wounded and came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride. They mentioned it to some friends who mentioned it to some more friends and suddenly Help For Heroes was born and growing fast. A flurry of visits to various offices led to the campaign being blessed by the head of the army, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt.

Help For Heroes does wonderful work for soldiers and other servicemen and women both directly and through its support of other service charities

TO JOIN IN THIS RIDE PLEASE DONATE £50.00

*Route and accommodation to be decided by those who join us. Please be aware accommodation, fuel and any other costs are incurred by each individual.

This is a Charity Vespa Ride (although all 2 or 3 wheeled transportation is welcome) in aide of 'Help For Heroes'
The actual ride will be on the 10th and 11th of April 2010.
Day One will be a long slog from Margate to Exeter via a photo op at Tangmere Aviation Museum. 266 Miles aprox.
Link: http://tinylink.com/?b4rveCwkMW

Day Two, will be a more gentle ride to Lands End. Taking in a more scenic route and enjoying the ride.
Link: http://tinylink.com/?P6vI9oJG07 155 Miles

I have booked the TravelLodge in Margate for Friday Night (9th). On the 10th we will be stopping in Exeter overnight. I will no doubt book the Travel Lodge or Premier Inn (they are pretty close). Sunday night at Lands End , it would be nice if everyone could stay at the Lands End Hotel.

I have an idea for a possible military style stop off.

http://www.newhavenfort.org.uk/

The Battle of Britain Memorial (photo opp) is on the B2011 near Folkestone.

The Gosport Ferry doesn't help really. I think the L platers would be better off going north around Portsmouth.

Any ideas on where to stay on the 2 nights?

Bournemouth looks to be about half way.

Where to stay near Lands End?

Are we doing the accomodation off of our own backs?

Is it the plan to stay together?

Questions, questions! Nerd emoticon

This might be a good time to look for a travelodge.
May have some cheap rooms.

Margate Travelodge has rooms for £32.00 if you book now.
Think i may book now because the prices will only go up.
If two people share and split the cost i don't think that's too bad.

Me and lil-pepy will probably share (that's if I can twist his arm into coming).

From Cortez over on the GTS forum;

There is a place just a couple of miles outside of Margate called Manston airport, there is a nice spitfire and military museum there with a good cafe and plenty of space for parking the scoots.

http://www.rafmanston.co.uk/

Could be a good starting point?[/url]

Here is a link :

http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/H4H_sponsor_forms_hidden.html

Please download these forms for sponsorship. Raise as much as you can but the minimum required is £50.00

Form 1, you can use for individuals, company and business etc.
Form 2, standard list format.

The event website to write on the form is : http://www.justgiving.com/ModernVespa/

Once you have collected your money you can pay it into your bank and then pay on the JustGiving site, write a cheque to H4H* or give it to me for me to pay in.

Just let me know what you are doing so I can keep a track of it.

If anyone wants to make a leaflet or handout of their own they are welcome.

I will be requesting some stuff from h4h nearer the time.

Any questions PM me or email me marc-moore@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks

That's good.

If we get there for say 9.30, we can all meet up, have a chat and a coffee. The place opens at 10.00 maybe we can get in and have a photo op and then we can leave around 11.00.

Towards Dover ? then Folkestone? the New Romney? and Hastings?

2 hrs ish.

I think I have allowed enough time. I have over estimated the time for each leg of the journey to allow for fuel stops. The only exception and the longest leg is the final leg of day one, this is the only part of the journey which coud take alot longer than expected, could be 4 - 5 hours with fuel stops.

feel free to change it, as my brain is fried. Too much work and not enought sleep.

Excellent news on sponsorship , Well done!! (I hope the sticker isn't too embarrasing )

I agree the schedule, for the first day is all messed up. We need to reduce the number of stops.

Bit of luck it could have been worse! I am going to sponsor £50.00 from my company, I will also get my brother to do the same.

I remember Reading something by jimc saying that he recons an average of 40mph is the best you can hope for (please feel free to correct if I have mis-quoted jim :s ). I think planning plenty if breaks is a good idea, if they double up as petrol stops, bonus.

Remember comfort breaks Razz emoticon

and don't forget that it'll probably be pissing rain which may reduce our average speed even more.

alex and i are just about to do hackney to st austell on B-roads and unclassifieds with loads of photo stops, picnic stops, and visits (to attractions like Buckfast Abbey, Carnglaze Caverns, and Rabid Monkey World) planned along the way. two days down, two days there, two days back the 'pootlers tour'
