In late May of this year, I entered into the world of Vespa ownership after 10+ years of romanticising the idea after my studies in Italy. I purchased a new white S150 from Vespa SF in what was, after all this time, an easy decision. The sales team there were able to lower the price on what I felt was a good deal.
Things were great until July 4th weekend. I was out of town when someone decided to move my scooter so they could park their vehicle. Unaware of the weight of a Vespa, my little white S150 was dropped, putting light scratches along the entire left side, including the mirror, front brake caliper, reflectors, etc. What I was amazed to see though, is that there were no dents. It was immediately delivered to Vespa SF to review and estimate the damages.
I received a phone call from the sales person at Vespa SF this week, asking if I would be interested in owning a brand new S150. My bill was running quite high on the S150. Even though the damage was slight, they were going to replace all parts with new OEM parts.....brake lever, mirror, trim, brake caliper, etc...and rather than touch up the fender, they were going to respray. The sales person was worried my resale value would be shot---because even though we knew the damage was slight, the CARFAX report might scare potential buyers. So Vespa SF bought my old scooter and put me in to a brand new scooter for the cost of the deductible.
I have bought quite a few new cars over the years, and never have had treatment like that. It was definitely a win/win for everyone. They will sell my "old" scooter (having 200mi on the odometer) to someone who wants a new scoot, but doesn't want the elevated cost, I got a new scooter, and they will make a few bucks off the deal as well.
In my opinion, that is intelligent thinking.
I just thought I would share my experience with this community. It is always great to see and hear good things from bad situations.
Now I am the proud owner of a black S150....I was a little superstitous to purchase another white one.
