Dude. That was the rev limiter. It feels exactly like someone pulling sharply (and ever so briefly) on your rear brake. You were going downhill, which is the most likely place to hit the rev limiter.

I'll bet you were doing about 80, too.
Question, unloaded incidentally (nyuck nyuck):
what did you think when you hit the rev limiter for the first time? Were you aware of it and/or ready for it? Or even so, did it take a second to register? It was just kooky for me. My first thought was, "Hmm. Is this the first sign of of a seizing engine?" And that was for a couple of reasons. One, I wasn't actually, conciously pushing the scoot at that very moment, though since I was going down hill I suppose I probably was and two, there was that fleeting thought of where my oil level might have gone (nowhere very far as it turned out).

Uh oh. This is turning into a scooter chat thread instead of a Ride thread. Oh well.

And yes:
Jaded is in good form tonight. Har!

BTW, I've narrowed it down to 5 bikes. I need to see which one is tough enough to take Jess' verbal assault, "Your bike is material, you can replace it." Mine apparently was hurt when I was forced to agree and then took revenge by committing suicide.

Dude, that's awesome video! Aside from having to watch myself ride badly for a brief moment before you guys passed me, I only have one minor quibble: that section of road is definitively not Avenue of the Giants. That's just Hwy 1 north of Fort Bragg, where it cuts inland to join 101. Avenue of the Giants happens farther north, and is an exit off of 101.

Sorry... not trying to be a dick...

what did you think when you hit the rev limiter for the first time? Were you aware of it and/or ready for it? Or even so, did it take a second to register?
I don't really remember all that clearly. I think I knew it was there, and it surprised me at first, but then I realized pretty quickly what was going on.[/quote

I hit mine the first time coming off of the Chesapeak Bay bridge Heading WEST toward Washington DC on my way to white's ferry to meet up with some of you crazy bastar...um quitters.
I thought WTF was that then backed off the throttle and sat up a bit, def a pom ...pom pom, heart goes up in the throat a bit...
ok back to the rides thread.
But thanks. I'd never hit the rev-lim, but I didn't expect the three jerks, which you described pretty much like my experience, if I read you right. I always thought it would one pull. Just assumed, really. So it didn't even occur to me. Ok, full disclosure: it might not have anyway. Hah.

I wish they would name that corner after me, but there were 2 others before me, so they deserve the honor. Maybe it should be named, Titlow Down To The Knees Turn.

Now now, guys, we mustn't poke fun.

After all, we still have to post video of the group pulling his shit up a fucking cliff face, so we don't want to use up all our lattitude quite yet...
