The 66 sears blue badge didn't come with a running light, which is where you can easily tap in a speedo light wire. So I was wondering if there is another wire in the headset or switch I could tap into to get power? Speaking of the switch, I can't seem to see how to remove it from the handlebar, besides prying-which I haven't tried--what am i missing?

There should be a very small phillips head screw buried somewhere near the center of the switch.

So... typically the yellow wire runs up to your handlebar switch ...and then a second yellow wire forks off of it ( just unscrew the yellow wire and twist / solder together with it a 10" run that goes to your speedo ) and runs over to your pilot light. In your case, the pilot light is your speedo bulb... a .6 watt, 6volt festoon bulb.

Have a look at your wiring diagram...

If your speedo doesn't have the little white plastic cap on the back of it, you're going to need one. Also, for the tip of the wire there's a little cup shaped crimp-on end that fits into the white plastic cap. I just took a tiny tiny spade terminal, cut it down, and bent it into shape.

oh, and you remove the cover off your handlebar switch by prying it off. It's just held in place with tension.

that exposes the plastic portion of the switch, and there's a tiny flathead screw in the middle of it. unscrew that and the switch will come out.

Exactly what I needed to hear, Eric. Thanks a million! I was hesitant to just pry it off until I heard from someone on the forum, but it seemed it was the only way. Steve from SpeedoKing set me up with the spring, plastic cap, bulb and wire, so I just need to run the wire over to the yellow wire on the switch. I'll get on it today!

So I got it all working, thanks to you, Eric--but it was weird...My switch was exactly the same as the diagram but the yellow and the white horn wire (dotted line) were soldered together and both in the #4 hole on the switch and nothing was in #3. I tried the #3 with the festoon, but nothing. i put the bulb wire with the yellow and white in #4 and it worked! Unfortunately, the horn stopped working? and I burned out the rear running light. I tried a few different things and nothing, then i thought, "maybe i should hook the headlight back up and try it all again." I did and everything worked! Do you think that if the headlight is out it throws everything else out of whack?

Eric, here is the bike when I first got it Here I'll update as i make progress...

All the bulbs need to be present in the system to balance the output and load. If one bulb goes out, several others will blow as a result. It's a good idea to keep some spares around.

Thanks, Trace. I figured as much, and I'll know better next time. Luckily I had an extra running light. When the running light burned out, the speedo bulb was so bright I thought it might explode, but it held strong!
