Hey all,
I read every article on Modern Vespa I could find on anything GT200, but have yet to see any articles directly pertaining to the Malossi 210 cylinder kit part #3111473 installation.

I have read that a few of the members here have installed this cylinder kit with other performance modifications. My biggest concern is that I have heard from a friend(club member and technician at a very respectable scooter shop) that this kit has been known for blowing head gaskets.

Has this happened to anyone?

I am not as interested to hear that you have heard this as I am to actually talk to anyone who this has happened to. Anyone have any personal experience? I know of at least 2 members that have/had run a bike with this kit. Is it still working well and how many miles do you have on it?

I am wondering if you followed the Malossi installation instructions? That being said does anyone have the installation instructions for this kit? I bought a bike that came with the kit, but no instructions were supplied. I was going to ask Malossi USA.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Harvey!

I already installed the cylinder and cam, so it is a matter of time to see if it will hold up.

The things I did do correctly was piston ring end gap, torque the head correctly, install those retched o-ring on the cylinder studes, and sent the head off to be flowed on a bench.

All I need now is a bitubo in the front and a exhaust.

I put one in after my whole engine ate itself during last years cannonball... No gasket problems yet! Been riding it hard for about a year now.

After looking I have come to the conclusion that Malossi made the 210cc cylinder kits to upgrade the GT125L to a 200cc bike. A few people have replaced there jugs when top end failure has occurred(like Marc Alan Goodman stated), but the 210 kit gives little, if any, performance upgrade.
I have installed and am running the Malossi cylinder with no faults so far. I feel a little more torque with the cam. I just cannot get myself to spend $1000 on other performance mods when I have a 1000cc motorcycle I could just ride.
I am debating sourcing a 250cc gts motor and see if I can bolt the carb on it and go!

Thanks for all of your input.

So you are paying out all the money for 10cc more? Why not get a GTS250cc? Enjoy your GT200 as it was ment to be ridden.

tuf2c,

thanks for sharing your experience with these. I agree that for 10cc and perhaps a little bit more hp it not worth it.

I love my GT and never plan on getting ride of it, but dropping a 250 or 300 engine in there sound like great idea if it can work. I just never hear anyone do that before..so you would be the GP (guinea pig ).

Defiantly send me any update on that project. It would be nice to have the extra horse for the hills and wind.

You can't just bolt a carb in there.

I am actually turning over tomorrow what is likely to be the first GT250. And lemme tell you - there's very little GT left.

To get this to work you need
- GTS wiring harness
- GTS coil
- GTS voltage regulator
- mounts for regulator (goes on right radiator mount - have to source the parts)
- GTS coil (and the will to drill into your bike to mount it)
- GTS instrument cluster
- GTS headset plastic plus switches (unless you want to cannibalize your GT wiring harness)
- GTS ignition antenna
- A friend's GTS you can tear down pretty far to match wiring on

it's a bit of a pain and I haven't yet turned it over. I'm sort of assuming it will all magically work.

FYI - the carb swap won't work because the GT's immobilizer terminates at the CDI. On the GTS, the CDI is sort of part of the ECU which is in the throttle body, which is a full replacement for the carb. Tear that out and your shit won't start.

Hey OZ or the wiz of OZ. You've been on this board so long..lol

Anyway, so let me get this straight, you've already attempted this and are about to see if it works?

Man you Cali guy and you mods are off the rockers..Wha? emoticon Props go to you for trying it. But since it's not you only scoot it doesn't hurt as much when things don't quit workout, I guess.

Yeah thank god for the fleet. I'd hate for this to fail though. The GT was and still is my favorite bike.

Lots of fun with thes mods. This will be the cheapest GTS ever...

good times! I'll be writing up a detailed explanation as to how to make your own when I'm done.
