My first Scooter. I owned the world's fastest (or at least the most expensive) Italjet Velociefero. I raffled off at our club's first rally SCOOTSTOCK, 2 years ago. I spent about 8 grand on it including the original $4000 purchase price. All work was done by Italjet USA themselves. It still runs and does an easy 60mph, after all the mods.
I am very very very familiar with the ups and downs of Italjet USA as they were located 20 minutes from my home on Long Island in NY. Increasing Scooter awarerness was the upside, greed was the downside. Eventually it was all made moot by Italjet going under. Many parts are avaialable from Malossi. Unfortunetly at the time the same guy running Italjet USA was also ran Malossi USA and their issues were similar at the time. Circa Mid/late 80'searly 90's. Some engine parts are available as replacements for the Morini based Yamaha 50cc engine of the same era. I put over 4000 miles on it and I loved it. I followed the advice of Italjet USAs Service Manager (the only honest guy there) and got a bigger engined scooter after blowing up the motor and having it rebuilt 3 times. If I follwed the advice of everyone else at Italjet USA, I would be on my umpteenth rebuilt and kit, all of which was supposed to make that thing "go 90mph" - They even advertised that they had "kits" to do this. I bought everyone and barely cracked 60mph. BUt it was quite a strong pull up to about 50, I have to admit. Every repair bill or purchase had to be double & triple checked for over billing, errounious charges and just plain dishonesty. I was glad to move on to more reputable manufactures like Piaggio, Suzuki and Aprilia. Mine was featured in a 2 page spread of Scoot Quarterly Magazine as "The Scoot Quarterly Special" ![]() |

The Velocifero has a fan-cooled Morini Franco 2 cycle engine. The Italjet Formula had the same engine, other than having liquid cooling and a rear disc brake. The Dragster had a Minarelli LC engine with a rear disc.
The plastic body panels on the Velo (headset, rear body) were brittle and prone to cracking from normal riding. Parts for the Italjets were very difficult to get, even while they were being imported by Rosel in NYC. They rarely compensated their dealers for warranty work, so Italjets quickly earned a bad reputation. However, they are pretty good scooters, and fun to ride.I had a Formula for a few years. I kitted it to 65cc and did a bunch of other work and it would accelerate all the way to top speed while staying neck to neck with a stock Vespa P200e. The 65cc engine bored me after a while, so I sold it. I talked my machinist buddy Alex Tasi into welding up a new subframe and then I installed my Pinasco-kitted P200 engine in it. Now THAT was fun! It would do awesome wheelies and stoppies, too. Never did get around to hooking up that rear brake.... ![]() |

One of the main scoots in Larry Crowne was a Velocifero. They bought two, one to use as a parts bike.
Parts are increasingly scarce, I hear. |

Saw one at the shop the other day, mint except for a crack near one of the cowls in the rear. It was a customer's scoot; really wish I could have ridden it.
I did see, for the first time, that the pet carrier has a faux leather/vinyl liner with little pockets and pouches. Very cool! |

I have a 1997 Italjet Velocifero (seafoam green like the one in the pic above) that I'm thinking of selling. Last time I rode it (this was YEARS ago) it ran, but was low on gas and I think all the gunk in the bottom of the tank got sucked into the fuel line and it won't start up. It's not in mint condition, but it's in good cosmetic shape. It has some extra bits too (fender trim, passenger seat, whitewall tires... maybe a Malossi carb?). That being said, what do you guys think is a fair price for it?

Everybody knows, if you buy an Italjet, you buy a 180cc Dragster, because they're freakin' mad!

One for sale in Modesto, CA now. If it was larger than a 50cc I'd seriously give it some thought.

Italjet Velocifero
Iveco own Italjet I think, or they made the Italjet Velocifero. The main problem is if they have been standing a long time,k they tend to stop working, something to do with the electrics.

Mine. The Photo is attached. It was attached to my previous post. I do not doubt that the powers that be, messed with my post. I am sure a nasty responce will follow. This Velo had every option and Kit available at the time. Circa 1995... Delta Clutch, Variator... You name it. It would do an honest 60mph and would soft seize often. I switched from an Aluminum 65cc to a Malossi Cast Iron 50cc and lived happily ever after. I bought it direct from Italjet and they did all the Modifications. If you need any Italjet Velociefro info, contact me.
I raffled it off at the first Scootstock Rally, but it was lost during Hurricane Sandy. RIP[/img] ![]()

I went through that when DropBox stopped allowing hot linking. Suddenly all my pics were borked.
So far Imgur seems to be fairly friendly, if you can deal with Imgur in general. I use it because there are some nice upload tools. I was using their upload scaling for linking to another forum that isn't as nice as this one until Apple went with HEIC format for images. Now I scale and convert with Automator anyway before I upload. ⚠️ Last edited by seamus26 on UTC; edited 1 time
