That said, I think the young lady had stated that she has kept the wounds clean and scrubbed, and aside from that, so long as her tetanus booster is up to date (every 7-10 years BTW) she will be ouchie for awhile but fine. Makes me hurt just looking!

One thing I always used on skinned up places was Vaseline - It helps protect and moisturize since the skinned up places will crack and continue to be sore.

Heal fast... and scoot again as soon as possible

Just slow down... and be careful!!

I'm assuming that people were kidding about it being a good idea to not wear protective clothing, and added my remarks about the helmet as such.
Which is why I added the emoticons afterwards.
Of course it's the thing to do to wear protective gear! Which is why I added the pic of Zee suited up. She would not have had a scratch on her.

I have a feeling that the original poster got a lot of slack from MV members just because she's cute. The reality is that that was an unnecessary lesson to learn especially when all scooter riding manuals (like what's posted on this site) emphasize wearing protective gear.

I do give the original poster credit for showing her rash, as maybe it would be a wake up call to some here who think that just cuz you're riding a scoot and you're going slow, it's ok to not wear decent riding gear.

yeah, the ground doesn't care what you're riding when you hit it. Pavement at 25 can hurt and leave some interesting marks on your body.

I don't always fully gear up for jaunts about town, but I wear a fair amount. I just happen to appreciate the extra protection. You never do know what's going to happen.

+1,000,000 on what you guys said.

I think that Toreador Pants should transcend to other sports too. For example- Four years ago, I crashed my bicycle during a race... I leaned the bike too much on a sharp turn. The pedal hit the pavement, the bike went sideways, and blammo! The thin cycling shorts and jersey offered very little protection. I got a nice road rash on my leg and cracked my pelvis. If I wore armored pants and jacket, I would have not sustained these injuries.

I think that sports like ping pong, badminton, and archery are still okay without ATTGATT.

Ha that pouty face reminds me of my daughter...but she does it after only breaking a nail.

Seriously though, are those the clothes you were wearing when you went down? Hopefully someone gave you a serious lecture about that if so , but I bet you think twice next time. Hope you heal up fast.

Added: BTW kudos for having the guts to post this and share it with us.

I spent 21 days in a burn center believe me when I tell you. (You don't know what pain is tell you have a skin graft surgery) the donor site will make you scream like if someone if flaming you with a torch. I cried like a baby.

When you're young you have a need to learn for yourself don't you. That's not to say she isn't cute too. I don't think MV's are really shallow. Read about other MV's who have had an accident. Nerd emoticon

Straight answer: Wear a leather jacket, thicker weight denim at the very least and go back to riding those dirt/gravel roads. Oh and a helmet.

I strongly believe you will learn your best riding instincts in the dirt. From controlling a slide to braking and cornering. And as you get better you'll gain real world usable confidence. Because you'll run across that stuff on the road some day and it won't make you freeze up as you pass over it, prparing for the crash. Instead you'll actually ride through the hazard with that same pretty face intact.

Good for you kiddo. Don't live in fear. But use that brain ya got ok?

Flirting is one thing, covering your irresponsibility with cute behavior when you get caught is another, and I've seen it way too much. Usually not directed at me. I've known grad students that would wear provocative clothes to get their faculty's attention, and it really did make me think less of them.

It will all heal up in time Bricheze
Question is ... were you wearing that short sleaved top and skirt when you crashed?
Or did you get these scratches and cuts through jeans and a jacket??

I slipped on oil recently, and went down so fast I did not have time to blink. I did have jeans and a jacket with armor on but my right knee and elbow took the brunt of the hit, and both had large patches of skin ripped off from the friction at the moment of the hit. After that sliding along the street I took no further damage.

Way to hang in there and your getting back on and riding ?? Yes??

Y'all must be kinda grumpy to argue about this

The pic in the OP is really cute
and in no way suggests that the OPer is engaged in an irresponsible lifestyle

And folks who try to charm their way out of their responsibilities are very tiring to be around

Why do you need to learn that you should wear protective gear by crashing? When you can learn to wear protective gear by educating yourself e.g reading the owner's manual that came with the scooter. Or reading the DMV handbooks. Or asking for advice from those more experienced. etc etc

Should you also learn about not hitting yourself on the head with a brick by first hitting yourself on the head with a brick and noticing that it hurts?

I'm curious - how many of the self-righteous gear folks eat meat? How about grilled anything (meat or otherwise), given that we know that charcoal smoke and the blackened char spots on grilled food contain highly carcinogenic polycyclic aromatics? How many of you smoke? What about driving on the freeway when riding on surface streets will get you there a bit slower, but more safely? How about sleeping in a bed without rails? Or sitting on a chair? Or any other furniture for that matter?

Now, I'm of the opinion that people should, for the most part, wear good armor clothes while riding their scooter. I looked at the likelihood of injury from a fall, the amount of damage to me prevented by gear in such a fall, and the comfort (and discomfort) of wearing said gear and came to a conclusion.

I still, however, eat meat, don't smoke, live in a city (where there's lead everywhere) sleep in a bed without rails, and have been known to use the stairs while under the influence of alcohol.

Risk is relative and the negative utility of a crash differs from rider to rider. Sure, people *should* wear long pants and no flip-flops while riding at the very least, but it's impossible to stake out an absolute moral high ground based strictly on adherence to particular safety guidelines if one does not also put railings on ones bed, and so on.

The poor girl who started it is probably afraid to ever post anything again. She is a newbie and only 16, can't we lighten up?
Arguments about pouty faces, Toreador Pants, etc. should be in their own threads IMO.

When you're young you have a need to learn for yourself don't you.

So when I was a boy I & my pals DID SCARY, STUPID & DANGEROUS THINGS and this was because I & my pals were not into BEING TOLD who to see, what to do or how to do something... WE DID IT. It worked or it didn't but we did it. So OP & her pals now have somebody in their peer group that has fallen off their scooter without (guessing here,) wearing protective clothing and THEY now have a reference point that they can learn from. One of them has done it now. Now choices will be made by them FROM THEIR PEERS FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE.

So secondly YES of course ONE of YOUR PEER GROUP will. I bet a lot of MVs know somebody that had hit themselves over the head with 'anything' to see if hurts like they've been told it will or even just for the sake of it. Yes I had a mate that head butted walls. I remember him knocking his self out!! He didn't seem to learn from that but I & few pals learnt from being there first hand and seeing it happen that it had to hurt.

Every new generation needs to learn for themselves... Or how else do we move on IF SOMEBODY DOESN'T DO IT?

As for "you can learn to wear protective gear by educating yourself e.g reading the owner's manual that came with the scooter. Or reading the DMV handbooks." ROFL emoticon

"Or asking for advice from those more experienced." Thats what I'm saying in the OPs peer group there is now somebody experienced in the art of crashing... THEY CAN NOW MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE.

Young people don't 'hear' what they are being told by 'the old know it all' (like me, Nerd emoticon ) But because they've seen it experienced first hand.
