Then my work here is done.
Jim you decide. Locate a copy of OK Computer, play it and then tell me I'm not wrong. Granted Karma Police was OK. Bill X |

This is my opinion:
The true genius musicians will follow a multi-platinum album and sell out world tour, with a 4 hour film noir based on the ravings of a 17th century poet called Geoff. Musical genius and pretentious bollox go hand in hand. |

The Bends is the best album for sure. Stuff from the last few years is okay... It beats listening to Britney Spears.

OK Computer is a modern classic and, perhaps (as suggested in previous reviews), this generation's Dark Side Of The Moon. Yorke's vocals and the bands' work in the studio is reminiscent of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd. I'll opine that OK Computer is the first real classic of the 21st Century. Granted, it came out in 1997 and all the elements are pretty much there on The Bends two years earlier, but on the whole, the later album is better.
As a songwriter and part time musician, I consider Radiohead's music pretty self indulgent. Good music always gives me a physical buzz and these guys make me stoned. Put on your favorite hi fi head phones and crank up Exit Music (For a Film) and see where it takes you. So, go ahead and put me in the camp of those who think Radiohead's work is genius and pretentious old bollocks. |

Fan-farking-tastic. Been a fan for yonks and when I saw them in '04 their lighting show was unbelievable, before that their last visit was in '98 - yeah I know too bloody long.
I like that they make music that they want to make and not pump out the same old song thirteen times on a million albums. I say, if you don't like it then you don't have to listen ![]() But yeah they do have their heads so far up their own backsides that they could tell you what they what they had for breakfast last Tuesday morn |

I love all their albums in completely different ways. Although I liked it initially, after several months, In Rainbows became one of my favorites!

For me it was OK Computer and Kid A was where it started to all go wrong because the songs first two albums had some kind of structure and sometimes maybe even a chours but I agree with Gregg they soon went missing up thier own arses and started to produce mindless whining bollocks that everyone hailed as something truly amazing but for me it was more of a case of Emperors New Clothes.
No one, especially in the music industry wanted to be the one to say erm..... I just don't get this. Bill X |

I had to read most of the thread to have any clue (whatsoever) what you were talking about. Never heard of any of them/him/her!

I rather agree with you Bill - I did like OK Computer though. Maybe it seemed like an adventurous wee foray into something a bit different at the time and then when Kid A came out it turned out to have been more of a stepping stone into something totally different. I now find pretty much everything they do boring and even some of the older stuff has been tainted.
I can honestly say Kid A was the most disappointed I've ever been with an album and I've never quite been as receptive [as I used to be] to new releases since. And I'm not just talking about Radiohead releases either. EDIT: So I noticed after Pepy's post that I didn't address the original question, only Bill's last post on the matter. So... eh... both, I suppose... but definitely more of the bollocks these days. And definitely disappearing further up their collective arsehole with each album. ⚠️ Last edited by TheJ on UTC; edited 1 time

I used to subscribe to the ' went downhill after The Bends/OK Computer' camp... and The Bends is pretty much my favourite album ever.
I've had to reappraise that since In Rainbows came along though. I think it's just incredible, and rewards repeated listens more than any album I can remember in the last 10 years. Plus there's tons of great stuff on Kid A. |

So partly because of this thread last night I dug out The Bends and I have to admit it is brilliant album.
Why couldn't it all stay like that ? The Killers third album should be on it's way soon. Bill X |
