Modern Vespa

Was out for a quick ride after dinner tonight, up a two-lane that leads to some pretty nice twistys. Anyway, there are a few cars in my lane and a few in the oncoming lane. I'm checking out the oncoming traffic and see another motorcyclist coming along. Just as he passes me, I see smoke and some serious fishtailing. Apparently, the cars in front of him were slowing down and he wasn't. He locked his rear tire up pretty good, but he kept it up. Scared the shit out of me; I'm sure him too. Helped me to remind me to stay alert at all times, that's for sure.

I did that the other day coming over a hill with the stop sign hidden behind a huge oak tree.

Being able to control the bike when coming to a hard stop and stay upright is a useful skill. It's happened to me twice in the sun, and once in the rain which cared the hell out of me.

The two second rule works if you are looking. If you are prone to turn your head from time to time then add some more open space between you and the guy in front of you.
