We bought a GTS for my daughter when she was 12. Now that she is 14, we find she didn't grow as much as anticipated. She is only 5'4" and can touch with her feet. But, we're concerned of what might happen in the pressures of traffic.

Is there a lower, slimmer seat available to allow her to get her feet planter more securely?

Wow! I would have loved my parents if they had bought me a GTS when I was a teenager. I did get a Suzuki FS50, and I had a pony Razz emoticon No, I was not spoiled. My dad lived in the country where everything was really used and cheap, including the horse That is a lot of scoot for a young girl.

I am about the same height. I can touch with the balls of my feet. I am going to order a lowered seat from Pirate Upholstery. They are not cheap. They have 2 lowering options. Give them a call or send them an email. They are really nice and knowledgeable. Several others on this forum have their stuff. You could also shave the seat foam yourself and replace it with a gel pad.

I agree it's a lot of scoot, but it does triple duty. Mom rides it alot and dad catches an errand on it when possible.

It was more machine than we were looking for, but this one came available for a price we couldn't resist.

Thanks for the replies.

Also, do a search on 'seat height' and such - there have been a number of different threads on the subject in the last couple of years. Pirate is a great option, some have had good luck with other places, and some have done the work themselves. Good sturdy shoes with a THICK sole also help.

Good luck whatever you do...

how old do you need to be to ride in "ok" I assume Oklahoma? 14 on a gts seems wild!

I was a nice enough kid but at 41 I barely have the self control and maturity to behave on GTS. Hopefully she is more mature than I was at 14 (or 30 even). Laughing emoticon

also there is no law she has to flat foot both feet. One flat foot plus the other one as a rudder or stabilizer is not that bad. People that ride motorcycles often only have one foot on the ground.

I agree sturdy shoes are a must for shorties! On my buddy I can wear less strudy shoes-always boots but the sole can be thinner- and be fine, but on the vespa I need my big ugly Doc Martins

If truth be told, she's probably a bit more mature than dad. I don't mean to leave the impression she will just be cut loose with no supervision. Even though she is already old enough for the MC license, she has to wait until after she attends MSF training mid-October before being allowed to take the MC exam. After she gets her license, she will spend a season riding with either Mom or Dad. Right now, we are going to vacant parking lots where she spends 70% on the GTS, 30% on a CB250 Honda Nighthawk. (Whether she will use it or not, she has to learn to use a clutch before going to MSF.) We're also keeping our eyes open for perhaps an S150 or a Vino 125.

I had my MC license @ 14 even though my Mom swore I never would have one. She changed her mind when she realized she would have to make a daily round trip of 20 miles to pick me up from after-school athletic practices. Back then we were limited to 125cc's or less. My ride was a Honda XL100. ;~}

A BUDDY 125 would be ample.
