Hi there - when does the light tend to begin to illuminate?? When my gauge gets close to showing empty, the light never goes on. I'm tempted to not re-fuel until I see it light up, but do not want to run out of gas. When does yours illuminate?? Thanks.

i thought i saw in the manual that the low gas light will come on with 0.2 (gal or liters, sorry i dont remember).
if you assume gallons, that's 1/5th of a gallon = about 14 miles (@70mpg) of gas left. so basically, if you see the light on, you probably only have a safe distance of about 10 miles left in the tank. |

On my 16 mile round trip commute, I can go a couple of days with it fluttering off and on occasionally. Once it is on steady, I figure at most a day's worth is left, so maybe 15 miles. I've only run out once, and it had been on steady for two days. I only had about 500 yards to push it to the gas station, though.

Here's a post on running an LX150 dry: Copper Dolphin wrote: Hello Casey21 Welcome to MV. I have an LX150, and a GTS 250. Have not found out how much gas I have when the light comes on with the 250, she is new. But on the Lx I have gone about 45 to 50 miles after the light came on before it died due to lack of fuel. The manual says there is a reserve tank, but there really isn't one. A motorcycle reserve tank is a tank seperation built in to the tank, that has it's access to the carb controled with a valve. As in the Fuel stop lever having a Off, run, and reserve setting. With the Vespa scooters the entire contents of the take are available to the carb with no way to shut off part of the tank. We basically have the yellow warning light. The way I use this is when the light comes on, I continue to ride (usually to or from work) then the following morning I stop and fuel up. I usually put in say $4 worth and ride this it comes on again. This way I do not have to worry about over filling and it is usually quick to just put in the 4 $1 bills into the machine and I then pump it at 1/2 power till I get to about 1.6 gallons, then I slow it way down till the $4 is gone. The prices are starting to get up to an amount were I need to think about using a $5.. OK, I ate it. Harvey |

You ought to learn how much reserve you have once the light is on, just in case you find yourself in that situation.
You don't have to worry that as soon as the light comes on the tank will be dry. You'll see the light flicker as you go over bumps, and it will gradually work up to a solid glow. I start looking for a gas station when I notice the flickering, but have run the scooter for a while (about 5 km) when it was a solid glow. I have also taking the scooter onto the highway (with a reserve of fuel on the back) and ran the tank dry. I wanted to see what my distance was between stations. Worked out to about 110 km at highway speeds of 90-100 kph. ymmv. |

I got 11.4 kilometers out of mine ... but that was with some pretty big hills. I was very lucky that I was able to coast to the bottom of the last hill and into the gas station. She was clean out of gas completely! So on the flat, I would estimate I might have gotten about 20 to 25 kilometers.

On mine, the light starts flickering at about 100 miles ridden (with about 1.6-1.65 gallons consumed) very reliably, and stays on pretty solidly just a few miles thereafter. I've never tried running it dry, but I always figured I had about 30 miles after it starts flickering.

I think there is variability between bikes and also on the same bike over time.
My light seems to come on later and later. |

As you can see everyone gets a different distance. Driving conditions will play a large factor. If you realy want to find one buy a one gallon gas can. Strap it to your rear rack and run the thing till it stops. Then you will have fuel to fill the tank and you will know.

My '07 LX150 gas guage reads about right for the first gallon. In other words its really a gallon gas guage haha. I knew something wasn't right so I ran it on a long ride and discovered from filled to bike sputtering out on a county highway gave me just past 72 mpg. The light came on after the first gallon was burned and stayed on for an amazingly long time. I remember it was over one hundred forty miles on that tank, easy.
