I was thinking more along the lines of a bug deflector, which is legal use of infants in South Dakota as long as they're leak proofed, as this one appears to be.

The Harley shop here sells them, but like 90% of their stuff, they're all made in China. The one in the photo looks to likely be of domestic manufacture.

If you get up enough speed you won't need any duck tape. Just don't hit the breaks too hard.

Well, I wouldn't go that far Eric ... but you have to admit, the pendulum has swung so far and so fast to the other side since the "good old days" that it is about to fly off its axis and really hurt someone!

Back when people knew how to lighten up and have a good time without assuming child abuse or alcohol issues.

Looks to me like Mom was proud of her baby and happened to ride a scooter.

That's almost how I traveled with my parents, when I was little and we only had a MC: on the tank. I don't remember this anymore, and it gives me the horror, thinking I could fall asleep and just fall off. But I guess my father's arms held me in place.

I remember vividly when my dad used to take me for rides in his Rambler convertible. I would sit on his lap and steer while he would work the pedals. I remember seeing the speedo needle way over 100 a few times.

He stopped driving it very much about the time I turned 4.

If I was to guess the real scenario of the old photo, I would say that the scooter belongs to whoever is taking the photo, he(?) is visiting the young lady who is merely posing on the Heinkel scooter with her baby for the photo.

She may be the wife of the picture-taker, and that is their baby. She does not strike me as the rider of the bike, but that's just my perception based on next to nothing.

Perhaps not spot-on, but something like that.

And I forgot to mention that the motorcycle passing by looks like an interesting machine too. It appears to be a vertical twin or tranverse 'V' of some size, rather Triumph-like.

Well kind of hard to ride with the kick stand down. But we did much worse in the good ole USA. Remember sitting on your folks lap and driving the car? Enough to run into a post and get crushed to death by your very on parents. Ouch!

How did we ever survive? And to think many of us survived growing up riding our bicycles without wearing a helmet or wearing seat belts in the car! I even ran with scissors once or twice! Laughing emoticon

I know you're joking to some degree but must admit it always gets me a little when people talk about how soft we've gotten and how they didn't wear seat belts, helmets, car seats or whatever as kids and didn't die.

It's rather one sided. Those who did die don't have the option of posting on forums.

Of course, this being a scooter forum, I'm sure someone (not you, TrafficJammer!) has an argument against reducing child mortality rates. Remember when kids were less wimpy and had the freedom to go flying through the windshield?
