It appears there is no ready made variator tool for the 500 that I can find, but a ggogle search turned up some Ruckus guys making their own. Seems we could do as good as them! Anyone made one around here? I have a JCosta I want to learn to put in with some help from a mechanic friend.
Here is the Ruckus guys Ho-made tool:

What?
http://www.scooterwest.com/item/Piaggio-MP3-500/482/
Scootertrap.com has one but it's not listed, give them a call.
ScooterWest also has a different one I think.

Give one or both of them a call.

Scooterwest showed one for a GTS but on Backorder, and did not see one on Scootertrap, but perhaps its something you have to ask for as you said.
Did not realize the buzzetti tool would work either, figured it needed to be for the 500.
However, for $8 looks like you could easily make a tool. and certainly other than spending a bit of time doing it, it seems a viable option.
I will check with scootertrap and see the cost and availability.

I like the OEM tool because it can not slip off like the aftermarket ones can.

Backordered at Scootertrap as well. Probably just make one. I usually have more time than money and will post what I come up with.

My understanding is the 400 and 500 tool are the same.

The Buzzetti tool cannot slip off as it bolts in place into two of the screw holes from the transmission cover. I've used mine twice and it is a better product than the OEM one for the 250 which I own and have used.

I just checked the link in the original post. There is a similar tool in the MV Wiki somewhere. Before you consider making one there is also a recent post on balance question after breaking one of the variator fins.

If you look in the MV Wiki you can find two examples of homemade variator holding tools.

Good grief! All sorts o stuff in the Wiki, which I have never explored. Obviously time to see what it over there,
When I want to search for something here I Google it ( much easier than the sites search engine) and none of this came up of course.
Lesson learned. Thanks!
