Is the S model usually viewed as the "red headed step-child"? It seems to garner no respect.
I'm just curious.
Oh, and no disrespect meant to any red headed step-children outh there.

The red headed step child gets thrashed regularly.
Thats a good thing for a scoot I think. Otherwise I dunno where you got that idea. People seem evenly split amongst the LX and the S. The V gets a bit of love too. |

i get lots of complements on my scoot, and they also love the color.
i personally liked the looks and the fact that it doesn't have a "code" in it. |

I don't think so, the S actually received some pretty darn good reviews when it first came out. Reviewers really loved the thinner leg shield that harkened back to vintage scooters. The lack of a glovebox also allows you to change your foot position to a much more stretched out in front of you position that you can't do so easily on a LX with a glovebox.

When you put a windscreen and topcase with backrest on the S it certainly dresses it up and completes the look. I like the floorboards on the S better, offers more riding positions. Oh, and Orange...........Love that orange. Best, SDG |

I absolutely hated it when I first saw one. But all of a sudden it just "clicked". The headlight and the seat just does it for me. I would definitely purchase one if i were in the market for a 150, above the LX/V

I think it comes down to your own style preferences. I liked my S50, but my wife wanted to get an LX. I now have the GTS and she inherited the S, but I still suspect she wants an LX when the time comes to upgrade. I hope she gets a LX150 so that I can borrow it

vespa s
my S 150 was purchased for me by my wife as a fathers day/birthday present. I had wanted a gt250 or gt300 which still wasn't available at the time. he offered me to order a gt in but I'd have to pay the difference. I simply didn't have the coin. he then offered me a 250 sport city aprilia that he had in stock but I had to have a wasp. reluctantly I went basck to p/u my black s150. when I got on & rode off I fell in love w/the machine. I've since added a topcase w/backrest & flyscrren which geves the scoot a bigger look and really completes it. The 50's & 150's LX or S are basically entry level vespas. many times owner's trade them in & upgrade to the GT but for many the 150/50 is all the power they need. The LX is usally $200 more than the S according to msrp. Maybe this is what creates an inferior perception. I attribute this to the lack of the glove box on the S which drops the price some. Both scoots have the same leader engine the only other major differences are the seats & headlights. I like the S rally seat but the LX seat is more practical for riders. the headlight case is a matter of taste but I do like the look of the flyscreen on the LX better than on the S. I may order the passenger seat for the S, as for power I'm still debating adding mods after the warranty runs out vs. trading up to a GT. For me the S is a sport version & the LX the sedan version, look as opposed to comfort of the 50/150 frame.

It's really just a style preference. I don't care for the rectangular headlight at all and I also prefer the stock seat on the LX. The lack of a glove box on the S doesn't bother me one way or the other. They have the exact same inner workings ... so if you like orange and prefer rectangular to round ... then the "S" is for you!

I like the S. Doesn't seem to bother Pete Townshend! I have an ET. At first, people didn't like the ET, now people talk about the smooth rounded lines of the ET and seem to like it. My next scoot will probably be an S in white, I guess. Right now, I have the S mono seat on my ET. Took off the back luggage rack, replaced the mirrors with chrome ones. An ET can be upgraded/updated to look great. The S seems to look OK to me the way it is.

I don't know about "red-headed-stepchild," but Austin seems to be overrun with LXs. I like being Special!

The S is my favourite. When I decided "right, I'm getting a Vespa" I was all set on an LX because that was all I saw...but the S presented itself to me and said "I'm your scooter!". I personally prefer the rectangular upright headlamp to the LX's passive sloping effort, the lack of glovebox is great because my crackberry/ciggies/sunnies all fit in the legshield boxes fine and don't fall out - I can fit a reasonable sized drink in there too, and I love the seat and square mirrors. A bit of 70s stylin' 8)
Plus, I always get dark cars, and I wanted orange. At the time it was S50-only. No regrets. Still love it. I feel pain because it's in the shop getting serviced. |

For me, the ET is the red-headed step-child of the Vespa line. I think the ET in any color is quite ugly, mostly because of the orange covers on the turn-signals (front and back). I think the 09s finally got clear ones. But it doesn't take away the rounded-ness of everything. I've always loved sharp lines on cars, and it holds true for scooters, since I love the look of the S.
But beyond the look of both, I don't have any experience riding or sitting on either one, so please don't let my visual tastes offend the ET owners. Besides, when you're sitting on one, you can't see the turn-signal covers, right? |

I like the S to. Enough difference between it and the LX to set it apart from the GT series. Marketing is everything.
