All the bikes I've ever owned have lived on the street or in a bike-bay, i once put my Vespa in the back of Van when i had a flat-tyre!! Your bike could end up with a Vitamin D deficiency, why take the risk?

The risk I would be taking if I didn't build the "shed" just makes me tear up.
this isnt the best of neighborhoods, and would not want to see our scooters touched by anyone that wont treat it properly.

One of my coworkers had her Vespa stolen from her porch when she was inside for a few minutes. Sad I tells ya, sad.

Here are a couple shots of my LX150 "resting" in its "scooterport." You can't tell from the pics, but attached to the back of the lattice are clear corrugated polycarbonate panels to keep the weather out.

Mine currently live outside in the driveway ... but during storms, they get a special spot in my living room.

I'd love to know the interior dimensions of your scooter condo! I have pretty much succeeded in convincing my landlady to let me build one. I can't build it out of pressboard (due to living in a hurricane alley) but I can build it out of cement block with hurricane tie downs on a tin roof.

My problem is finding enough space for the scooter condo.

Wow Your scooters really look good together. I have always liked your teal, but next to the yellow, it is even more vibrant. The yellow also looks really good next to the teal. If you have to paint either of them again, you should consider doing it two tone with these 2 colors.

I always wanted a two tone vespa ... but after toying with and agonizing over it ... I decided the LX just didn't lend itself to a two tone paint job the way some of the older models do. The more modern cowels just don't suit it in my opinion.

But yeah ... I love seeing the two of them together too!

This was built soon after my first scooter was stolen in '04. It was dubbed by my daughters, and is now officially referred to as "Fort Vespa."

You need a ramp to get to the scooter in and out. Nowadays, my scooter mostly lives secured outdoors, but this is it's official residence.

The guard dog was optional.

Mine lives in here, along with my other bike and a couple of kitchen appliances that I've got no other room for in the house, plus the usual mountain of shed tat that you accumulate.

They won't have to worry about a Vitamin-D deficiency because I am sure they will be riding all day in the sun and just letting their scoots get a good rest at night. Laughing emoticon

I would suggest making the interior at least 8'x8'.
this way you can get both bikes in and still have a little space between them.

True I cant imagine pressboard lasting very long in a hurricane. We'll eventually trim and put siding on the shed to fancy it up a bit.

Actually plywood with a Kevlar skin would hold up nicely to most anything (short of a tree) that a huricane could throw at it. But I agree concrete blocks, with re-bar reinforcement and tied down would be a better place to store them through the storms. Were you going to use some kind of tornado straps over the metal roof?
I know you will post pictures of this as your building it?? I would love to see what you come up with...
Here is where mine live, tho the GTS250 is still waiting for parts.. So I have stuck a few extra things around the area till I can find a better place while it is gone.

Mine is 8'x8' inside, of 2'x6' and particle-board construction, and covered with stucco to match the rest of the house. It's on a concrete slab, which I covered with snap-in tiles.

Yes ... perhaps, but plywood and kevlar would likely be more expensive than just cement block and rebar. I spoke to my landlady today and we have agreed on a space for it! Of course, she will benefit from this project as well as it means her patio (on the second floor) will be extended. It is going to be part of a larger project I have been planning for some time which entails enclosing one of my outdoor patios (where I have my washer and dryer) and then reforming and covering a small area adjacent to that for the scooters.

The roof will now be flat concrete rather than tin.

If the remnants of Tropical Storm Erica ever decide to push on and leave us alone, I will take some photos and show you what we are going to do.

Is that a raised wooden (plywood) floor? If so won't you be afraid of the center stand going through the wood? I have a 12X20 shed with a raised plywood floor that I have keep my restored beetle in and I make sure the tires are over the underground truss and not in between. I'm afraid to park the Vespa's in there so I keep them behind our other cars in the attached garage.

Hi all, I am new to the forum, recent buyer of a used GT200, after 30 years or so of badly wanting to get a Vespa (grew up in Italy, and always envied my friends with one!). Anyway, this thread is exactly what I need, so I figured it's time I stop lurking and jump in.

Since I live in upstate NY, I think I'll have to store my scoot for the winter for at least 4 months. Currently it resides in my garage, but when the snow comes there is no way it can take the place of my car, which obviously I don't want to dig out of a fresh foot or two of powder (or worse) every couple of weeks before going to work.

My easiest storage option for the winter is a non-heated, but weather-protected shed, with an electric socket I could use for a trickle charger. Would this be OK, with temperatures going regularly around 0-10F, and occasionally in the negative teens or twenties? Obviously, I'd drain the tank and maybe do an oil change right before storage. I don't want to have to drain all the fluids or anything like that, it'd be too much work, but I figure that should not be necessary.

Suggestions appreciated! Thanks.

Welcome slomojoe. I'm sure you will enjoy your scooter and hope you enjoy the forum. Be sure to learn how to use the search function and check out the wiki. There are many here who can answer any questions you may have. Plus it's just plain fun.

I would seriously recommend that you be careful when selecting a charger. Some trickle chargers will ruin a battery if left on. A charger like the Deltran Battery Tender Junior has technology to keep your battery topped up without overcharging. And they're less than $25 at places like amazon.com.

Here are a few links to threads about chargers:

Nice WS kayak Copper Dolphin, I use to have a Tarpon140 that I fished out of a lot. Mmmm nothing like some fresh redfish and trout in the morning.
Back on topic, sorry. I plan on building a driveway path that leads into my backyard which then eventually leads to a shed type thing. Still haven't made the blueprints yet though. I plan on making it into a service station with some wiring and all for lamps and TUNES so I can jam out at night while working on the scoot.

The wife has a red WS100 on the other side, and we do enjoy paddling around a lake in them. We have done some streams as well (like those where you can innertube down. nothing with white water..

Sounds like you have a good plan in place, just get the blueprints done, and all the permits and have at it. Sounds like a fun place to putter around in.

I did think of that, the OLD shed that the S150 is sitting in has a hole in the floor from the stand. So we bought two 16-gauge sheets of steel to screw to the floor where the stands will be...boom, hopefully problem solved. I will post a finished product once we have one.

We have a nice space under an awning for the scoots - you can see it was raining today but both kept dry. The patio is also locked, so I feel a whole lot better when we aren't there to ward off evildoers. Also the window has a gap that allows the trickle charger cord to hang out of the window and connect to either scoot. It's currently charging the S50 since it get's ridden less now that I have the 300.

Sounds like a good plan. I recently repainted the concrete in my garage and was going to put two 24X24 sheets of diamond plate down until I found out it was going to cost me $60.00 a sheet, ouch. Instead, we bought some very thick berber carpet and put it down at a cost of $30.00 for a 4X12 remnant roll.

Slomojoe,

Welcome to MV. I'm a relatively new member, myself, and in upstate NY (Albany - where're you?). I'm also trying to figure out winter for my almost new 2003 ET4 and it looks like an unheated garage at a relative's place is my best bet. I would take the battery out and put it on a trickle charge at my home, me thinks. Fill tank and add conditioner like Sea Foam, and bring to dealer for her 600 mile make-over when she comes out of hibernation.
