I'll go back to my original comment. - If you hit anything with your mirror while filtering then you're filtering too fast.
Scooter riders are not blameless in whacking mirrors. Sometimes riders don't even take care of what they have when they do hit someone.

Saw a crazy Piaggio Liberty rider with yes, one stock mirror that had been whacked out of shape (presumably by filtering) and now was angled to the heavens so a good view could be obtained of an alien spacecraft descending from the skies. That rider was all over the place and had no chance of seeing me or anyone else because of their "arrangement". Either they had been in a collision earlier and were wigged out or alternatively they rode like that to work every morning. I think it was the latter.

As to those who say"What are you doing riding between lanes" Yes, it takes some practice and you do need to know where your mirrors are. I read one riders description as being the "mirror dance"

Here in CA, we have a lot of full sized trucks and moms in minivans. As for me and my scoot, I need to be very careful when passing Dodge Caravans, Dakotas and their Full sized trucks as well as the larger Ford trucks. Most other mirrors are above or below mine. I have yet to find a solution that works for me as I have very large shoulders and all I can see in most mirrors is elbows.

Most of the time, you do not need to do much more than move around the mirror as you roll by. I split at a much lower speed than many of the sports cycle dudes with their asphalt resistant t-shirts and protective flip flops. But, there are times when you need to put your feet down and walk past the two mirrors when they match up in traffic. Your other choice is to stop and wait for traffic to move. At times, this is your wisest choice.
