So i'm trying to nail down the issue of the sound the belt makes when taking off, so I decided to take some pictures and see if anyone can tell me it looks all good.

I may have missed a previous thread, but what type of sound are you hearing?

I don't see anything amiss, but my ET4 CVT looks a bit different than what you have there. It doesn't have a belt with teeth on both sides either.

PS: I'd recommend stuffing a rag into that oil filler hole while you are working on it to keep anything from dropping in there.

One thing I can see is that you didn't seat the belt deep enough into the clutch.

This link explains it a bit, and a search on belt change will answer any other questions...

I had a feeling that had something to do with it. But how do you get the belt to stay seated deep into the clutch? Every time I get it down in there, when I start it up and put some throttle on, it spins back into the same position in the picture, just barely inside the clutch pulley....

What am I doing wrong?

If the belt was properly down inside the clutch when it was installed and the variator torqued up, then that is just fine. It is seated just where it should be in normal use.

+1

The proper seating of the belt in the driven pulley is only an issue when you reinstall a belt that was off.

I, too, cannot discover anything out of order. My only suggestion would be to particularly inspect the black plastic guide wheel to be within specs and have proper function. I might also take the belt off and inspect it closely for any abnormal wear, indicating a possible malfunction.

Thing is, that only comes into play on deceleration, not on acceleration which is when the noise is reported to happen.

If the noise is something other than the 'strangled sealion', I'd be ensuring that the rollers were in the right way round, and that the variator channels weren't worn.
