I love the shot of the blonde guy in his mod gear lying back on the seat of his scooter all cool except he looks like he is in his 50's. Sometimes you should just let the memories of your youth remain as memories.

quadrophenia
I kind of did the math. if you were 18 in 1964 that would make you about 63 today. most of the mods in the video were at least 45 & older. quadrophenia was released in 1979 and rejuvinated the mod movement in england. I promptly went out & bought my 1st scoot, a 79 sil lambretta in 1980, at the age of 18. some aspects of mod culture I could do without (the pills & riots) but the scoots & always the music 60's or 80's and the clothes did it for me. being in Indiana then Texas I never was part of any mod movement but this movie did it for me and I don't think I'm alone in this. I've just bought my 2nd scoot my s150 after over 20 years w/o a scoot so I don't think your ever too old to relive your past just leave out the stupid stuff which this bunch seems to be doing just fine

Damn. I read the title and thought that maybe they released a 30th anniversary edition of the movie.

Where did you get the 45 figure. I know Sting was in his late teens early 20's. Actually in the 60's -67/68 we were riding English bikes and were more anti Harley gang bad seed problem causers. Don't really remember scoots and were not really aware of the Mod scene as discribed in the movie. More into the clothes, and longer hair. But that was life in a 3rd tier small city outside of Buffalo NY. Being stationed in SF was a culture shock in many ways. Out there we rode 305/350 Hondas with trail pipes for light duty off road partying. Back home we just had AM stations but they played everthing -Rock, Soul, and whats now classic 50's hits. We wern't rebels without a cause or disenfranchied youths. We were the sons and daughers of WWII vets throw into something we didn't need to be in but our parents expected us to serve if drafted. So we we out of touch politically -but the music was great, the weed was sweet, and the women had soul. Wouldnt change a thing- cept that war that wasted so many lives.

Well, actually they sort of did on DVD in the UK. It is labeled a 'special edition' (2 discs) not an anniversary one. The 'extras' on it are ok, nothing outstanding. The commentary by the director and the actor who played Jimmy is mildly amusing and some of the behind the scenes stuff is interesting.

Thanks. Did you get it in a US version? Can you tell me where I can get a copy that will play in Region 1. All I can seem to find is region 2 on Amazon.

Unfortunately, there is no 'US version' of it that I have found. Let's just say it is handy to have access to a region-free DVD player. Most (non-BlueRay) DVD players can be coaxed into being region free. Google is your friend.

quadrophenia revisited?
If you were in brighton in 1964 then you were/are on original mod & probably 63 years of age or older. I'm 47 although not a mod but like many of the others in the video bought my 1st scoot as a result of the quadrophenia movie released in 1979 & the great maybe the greatest who album of 1973. My point is that many of us would not be on this site let alone own a scoot had it not been for the O' or this movie. I never owned a parka or had more than 2 mirrors on my scoots ( I did add 2 bike lights to my lammy) my friends I've riden with have all owned motorcycles. I have my black s150 now and plan ride it or some other scoot as long as I'm able. 'Let me be stormy and let me be calm, let the tide in & set me free, set me free'.

I had damn near exactly the same experience with the movie and mod culture as you did...except I just lusted after Vespas and Lambrettas and the like and never got one back then. When I finally got my first Vespa in 2007, I had a choice of colors, and I immediately went for the silver because that was the color of the Ace Face's scooter...

Geez, this takes me back.... "30 years" eh?

I was 17 when the film had its UK release and very much into Punk. I went with some of my Punk mates (about 10 of us) to see the movie (which I did actually enjoy despite my preference for bondage trousers, leather jackets and DM boots)

however, on leaving the movie we got set upon by about 60 mods (Old Mod's offspring perhaps? )

chanting "We Are The Mods, We Are The Mods...." etc, interspersed with "Kill The Punks"....

Massive gang fight then erupted.... oh those were the days..... not .... hee hee Razz emoticon
