This Vespa is a '09 LX 150 with 260ish miles. I bought it brand new. I especially hear this noise after the engine warms up a little, choke disengages and RPM's lower a bit. If I rev up the engine a bit the noise is less frequent. After a long ride, the noise is even more less frequent but still present.
Is this normal? I've been brushing it off, thinking scooters just make these types of sounds (my first scooter).

Nope that is not normal, and I have no idea what is making that sound. it is too irregular to be something hitting as the varriator turns.. Take that in and have them check it out pronto, before it because something major.

Most likely something has come loose, or is sticking out where it should not be and is getting hit, by something else.

That sounds scary to me. My LX150 has never made a noise like that. I would definitely have it checked out ASAP.

Although it's hard to tell from a recording - that sounds far too loud for normal roller rattle. Get it checked by an experienced mechanic ASAP.

Hmm.. Afraid you folks were going to say that. Will take it back to the dealer. Judy mentioned there is no certified tech on this island, so I am a bit weary. Man, I really wanted to ride this Labor Day weekend. Now I have to wait till Tuesday to make an appointment.

The camera I recorded this video with, really did a nice job picking up the sound. It's really not loud as it appears on the video, but noticeable.

Any guesses on what the problem is?

If it isn't as relatively loud as the recording suggests, then it could just be normal roller rattle. All my smaller cc'd bikes with stock variators did/do it.

Find another scooter rider in person and ask them in Real Life!

I was going to say it's normal roller "clack" that goes away after break-in, but if Jim says it's far too loud, then it's worth having it checked. That said, don't be surprised if your wallet gets lighter by several hundred dollars only to have the tech say, "I didn't find anything wrong."

-----> Roller clack.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll do a better video later, maybe outside, and I'll rev the engine for a short duration to see if the noise goes away to better diagnose the problem.

Will probably go to the dealer later and ask my sales person to start a LX 150 to see if it make the same noise.

Only other person I know with a LX 150 is Judy. Maybe she can put her head next to the transmission cover to see if she hears this noise.

If I take it to the dealer and they find nothing wrong, it should be free right? Under warranty?

My 150 and 125's don't make (and never did make) any noises even remotely similar to that one!

I would be very reticent to ride it at all or even turn on the engine with a noise like that. I'd truck it to your dealer or ask him to make a house call ... that really doesn't sound good!

I hope you get it sorted!
