My aim to to convert the reflector on my top case to a break light similar to the break light in the rear windows in cars. Replace the reflector with LED lights to go on when the brakes are used. Has anyone attempted this? If so, what type of LED lights are needed and how difficult would it be to connect to the break wiring? I have a LX150. Any assistance would be appreciated.[/b]

Givi have a hi-stop brake light kit for their topcases however I am sure it could be used to adapt to any other case.

I did it myself to a cheapo Ebay topcase. It's not a big deal to tap into you brake light wiring system.

Instead of tapping into the wire itself I ran a wire from the brake light fuse all the way to my new l.e.d.

The most important thing is to put a fuse holder somewhere in between the new light and the connection at the fuse box. In the fuse holder use a smaller amp fuse than the one that is installed in you fuse box. You don't want to lose both brake lights if you have a short.

Do a good job weatherproofing the wires and light.

Search for "LED" and "topcase" It's been done and instructions posted here. It may have been years ago but it's here somewhere.

If you search for 'break light' you'll be disappointed. If you search for 'brake light' you might find what you're looking for.

(I'm really quite shocked, disgusted and dismayed at how many times the wrong spelling is used for very simple terms such as brakes and breaks, then and than etc. Our educational system truly is in sad shape and has been for many years)

Don't forget some type of disconnect if you plan on occasionally removing the case.

Chetwynder, I must concur with your statement on our educational system.

Personally it bothers me that everybody has to jump on people for their spelling. Come on, as if nobody ever wrote the wrong spelling of a word. We are an international forum and if i were from a country where English isn't my first language and read posts about people jumping on their own for grammar, i would be hesitant to write anything in English. At least were not writing in text speak. PM the person if it's that much of a problem. Just my thoughts.

Surprisingly, it is the foreign speakers of English who have the better spelling skills (not necessarily grammar). They probably had to make a bigger effort to learn new vocabulary. I had to (but then, I also spell my first language correctly--most of the time)
