I noticed he took the pet carrier out, I guess it was just in case the McCuff didn't work.

It didn't work.

There was gas flowing around the black plastic nearest the camera!

Dooood! I just saw that!
I now see how some people may have issues..
I didn't notice that before and to be honest, have not had spills.

But, I think this video is valid as it showed the McCuff in use and the result.
Before I thought it worked flawlessly, this now shows to everyone that it does have issues so count me educated as well as others who may not have known if it works or not.

So, use this video to determine if you want to use a McCuff.
I'll still use it, but next time with a paper towel around the rim to catch any loose spills. Believe me, this is still much better than the first time that I completely douched myself with gas.

Nice eyes Doug, like I said I now see how this could be a problem.

I also used my McCuff for the first time yesterday. I kept the image of the Vespa gas tank someone had published in mind when I used it. So I didn't rely on it to click off at the right time. Instead it helped me to free up a hand when using the vapor recovery system on the hose, by keeping it pushed back. I still filled it up manually, using a slow fuel flow, and visually cut it off when I knew it was nearing the fill mark. So it's useful to me in that respect, but I think the design of the Vespa gas tanks defeats the primary design of the McCuff.
PS. Zee is a cutie even with Toreador Pants, so you're a lucky dude. So I don't think Doug has to worry about you stalking him. Razz emoticon

I always think that if you take your bucket out you expose a hot engine to fuel drops from the pump and BOOOOM...
wrap a piece of tissue around the filler to catch any spill, then chuck in the bin if no spills, or put it in the sand bin if it's got a bit of fuel on it to evaporate.

A hot engine won't ignite petrol. It will boil it quite happily though, as I found out on my Ford Capri V6 when the carb hose came off and the fuel pump filled the V right up...

To my mind the McCuff worked well enough there, just a dribble to go down the drain hole - no gushes into the storage space. I usually get a dribble when I fill up to the brim (no daft foreskin on our pumps!).

Thinks, get a spare tank cap, drill/cut out the middle so the McCuff can be glued in, and use that combo?

You can pour petrol over a hot exhaust and it won't ignite. Needs a spark, so no real problems there...

The gas pumps where we live (and many other states) don't have the big, vapor recovery tubes over the nozzles that CA has on all of their pumps. The McCuff would just send gas squirting up and out of the McCuff.............just like it does on the factory tube.

**BUT..................I give you and Zee an A+ for effort in trying to solve this ongoing problem.

Yup, haven't had a drop of gas anywhere on my scooter (other than where it belongs) since I started using it.

Ours don't either. In fact, I have never seen those before! I'm kind of jealous!

Don't be. They are a PITA when it comes to filling the scooter. Everyone seems to have a trick for dealing with them, but I haven't found one that is foolproof yet. As soon as I thought I had the old style figured out, they came out with a new one. Each time I've used it, the gas has spurted out a bit.

It may spill if you are not careful
I also purchased the MacCuff, I know how much fuel it take when
it has 3 bars on the gauge, 1.2 GNS. The first time I did the auto
click off it also spilled some on top like the youtube movie showed.
I like the MacCuff because it does make fueling easier, just be
more careful is all.

Well that's cool then no boom.
Like your idea of mounting the McCuff to an adapted gas lid for the bottom seal. Although in Blighty I've not seen this type of cover around the pump.

Don't need it, and don't want to hafta store a gas-stinking piece of rubber inside my scoot! Razz emoticon
I can do the exact same thing w/o any McCuff thingy, and w/o removing the pet carrier too!
And so can you...
All it takes is using a light finger on the flow trigger and making sure you hold the handle back
over the pet carrier. Shuts off okay everytime. And w/o any spillage! Nerd emoticon

Do your pumps in Joisy have the evap bellows thing on them? Makes it much harder.

Maybe I just don't have the mad gas pumpin skillz that you do

Also note that the pump he's using doesn't have the full-length vapor recovery bellows. This allows the nozzle to go all the way, or nearly so, down the filler neck. If the pump had a full-length foreskin, the tip of the nozzle would barely get into the filler neck, so it wouldn't click off in time and there would be a spill.

When I fill up, I hold the foreskin back by hand and just look down the filler neck until I see the fuel start to rise up the neck. It also helps that I don't ever pump at full speed. Occasionally I get a splash, but nothing I would even call a spill.
