So after hours of trying to install the side stand properly, I finally just slapped it on and I am calling it "adequate". The problem was the o-rings. Trying to keep them on the mount without them rolling off was impossible. So I ended up just slipping them onto the bolt in the grooves and screwed it together.

I guess I could have carved a groove on each side of the mount so they'd stay in place while I put it together, but I'll save that for some other day.

Otherwise, it works fine. Anyone foresee any problems with the way it's installed?

Don't know where you bought your sidestand, but I bought one from Motorsport Scooters - a sponsor on this forum, and when you check out the description, etc., of the sidestand on their site, it gives you step-by-step instructions with closeup pictures of how to put on the O-rings. After tinkering with them for just a few seconds you will see exactly how to put them in place before bolting the stand on, but it sounds like you have already done that. If you buggered them up, you might want to go to a hardware store and but a couple of new ones - they are very cheap - a few cents apiece. Be sure to grease them up with waterproof grease before putting them on and they will slip right into place. Good luck. It really is easy to do.

The two grooves on the pivot bolt are where the 'O' rings go. Fill the space between them with a fair amount of water resistant grease and install. The 'O' rings are there to hold in the grease. Use a bit of blue Locktite on those threads.

That's actually what I ended up doing, but looking at the instructions on the Motorsport website it appeard that the o-rings were more like a spacer that went in between the mount and the side stand bracket.

So maybe I did do it right.

Hi,

Its come as news to me that the kick stand is not standard equipment on the gts in some countries.

I do use it when i dismount, then 95% of the time i put it up on the center stand, but i am wary of the fact that it does'nt lock down, its a small niggle but something i am getting used to.If i were not technically challanged i think i would remove and cut it down a smidge so it leans over more,(the kick stand on the 500cc X9's did'nt have a big lean angle and i know of at least one person who cut the kick stand down)

Steve
