I got an email, the other day, from a friend up in Missouri who wrote that the city council where he lives, had recently passed an ordinance that allowed mororcyclists (scooter folks also) to run a redlight after stopping. The reason, of course, being the magnetic sensors that are embedded in the traffic lanes around an intersection, do not pick up the low mass signatures of scooters and motorcycles. I think it's a great idea. I knew one guy who was stuck at an intersection for a day and a half. Luckily he had a cell phone with him and was able to call Domino's for a delivery.

Wow, that IS a nice ordinance! Our sensors do a good job of picking me up on my scooter here, but it's nice that his town realizes the problem and accommodates for it.

There is a bill pending in the Pennsylvania General Assembly to allow the same thing. I hope it passes, because I do the same thing regularly but know it's just a matter of time until I get a ticket.

If you do get a ticket contest it. A red light that will not change for your vehicle is arguably a non functioning light. In my state you are instructed to treat a non functioning light as a four way stop, therefore you are perfectly within the law to proceed through a light that isn't changing.

Makes total sense. Thanks for the advice. I'll try the argument, first with the cop, then with the judge, if and when that might happen.

I didn't know about that. I hope it passes, too.
I haven't had a lot of problems with the sensors, at least on my regular commute...except one...The one that leads out of the plaza where my business is located.
When I'm leaving late at night I I'll idle there forever if I don't go against the red light.
