I've been going through my 67 GT bit by bit and have taken care of a bunch of things. Torqued head bolts, case bolts, rebuilt carb (found some loose screws) ran new inner and outer cables, replaced fuel tap, fuel line, remounted glove cowl.

Basically this thing was suffering from a severe lack of maintenance. I'm going to be changing the tires soon. What should I check on the front and rear axles, hubs bearings etc? The only thing I notice on the front right now is a pulsing when using the front brake, not that I really use it very often.

On the rear the dust cap is missing.

Thanks for the advice!

The pulsing is often a sign that the fork bearings need to be replaced.

I would replace the front bearings and check your hub for trueness (is that a word?)

Throw some new brake pads in there while you're at it.

I really love that scooter. Here's alittle of the back story. It was built by Bobby at what is now Vespa Atlanta Midtown. He started with just a frame and he put a p-150 in it but heavily ported (don't know the top end), the carb is a modified si 24/24, and the pipe is hand made.

Its a screamer!

The motor # came up an 83 px125E.

My understanding is that it has a Malossi 166 kit, p200 tree, p200 Cosa clutch, Mazza cut crank.

Before the rebuild the carb was a real mess, couple of loose screws and a ton of crap under the screen. I didn't mess with the jetting and after rebuild and the chop looked good so I'm leaving that alone.

Ther really hasn't been anything bad with it...just neglected.

When I saw it was up for sale I gave Billy a call. We had just been up there about a month before for his rally. I could tell he really didn't want to part with it but was at least glad to see that it was going to someone that would take care of it.

I guess I don't know for sure but it seems that that the front hub is out of round, unless you can't tell the bearing is wonky when the break is not engaged.
Never changed a front bearing myself.

I do have some pulsing of my front brake as well, but the hub has absolutely no wiggle to it and rotates smooth as butter... my sense was the bearings were ok and it was the braking surface out of round as you suggest... seems possible to me

Well I ordered bearings seals and brake shoes from scooters O today. Its one of those things that I don't think there is a serious problem but if I'm going to take it apart to check those things I might as well replace them.

Neither have I...yet.

I'll let you know how it goes!

So far everything I have done has been easier than I thought it would be. My biggest problems haven't been the technical parts but the dumb stuff... trying to get a cable through somewhere, sneak a nut or a screw back in somewhere...that kind of stuff.

Sure thing.

I changed my rear wheel and tire and noticed play in the rear hub. I ordered the rear bearing also.

Ok, here is my first question...do I need to drop the fork? Not a big deal if I do need to I just haven't seen any write ups about doing it with the fork still on.

Parts should start arriving Monday or Tuesday so I'll keep you updated.
