Hi all, I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I need reassurance. I am right at 5500 miles, and my friend invited me down to Panama City this weekend. It it about 820 miles round trip and I might ride my bike (depends on the weather Sunday - I don't mind rain, but don't relish the thought of 8 hours coming home in a gale - fortunately if you don't like the weather forcast in Florida you can wait 10 minutes and look again - it will have changed ) So anyway - whether you measure it at 6000 miles or 6200 miles, by the time I ride it around in FL and ride it up to the shop I will be well over the reccomendation for service. My tire looks okay - I am close to the wear bar but still have some rubber above it, checked all the fluids and the tire pressure and all looks good on that front. What say those of you who are more knowledgeable than me? My hubby is kind of unhelpful because he is worried about two eight hour trips all by myself (though he did help me with all of the checks yesterday - sweet guy
The service interval is actually defined as 10,000km - 6214 miles. So you'll be pretty close to the actual interval. However, a few hundred miles each way makes no odds at all. So you're good to go.
I agree with Jim. just check your fluid levels good prior to taking off. Have a good trip. how's the tire conditions? I know you said something about getting a new rear sometime soon.
Tire looks really good right now. We checked the pressure and it was a little low yesterday, Shannon said that is probably why I have some spiderweb-looking wear over on side of my tire. We spent the day going over backroads on Lookout Mtn and through Little River Canyon a couple of times - fun ride, nice stops. I'll post a pic or two later.
Ride the scoot but be carefull on the rear tire. On some brands of tires the wear bar indicators can be a bad measure unless they are at the very center. On my 250 I had threads showing at the center of some tires with off center wear bars still having tread above them.. If there is no tread left at the center it is a long trip to count on the rear tire lasting.
As others stated, don't worry about being a bit over on service interval.
