Okay, I can't find anything in search on this one.

Since I always wear a helmet I was unable to hear the sound my baby(alias "Jet") makes on acceleration. Made a short trip to get fuel without my helmet today. During acceleration from about 25 mph up to at least 45 mph ( after that I don't know. To much wind noise) I hear a loud series of clicks from the front end. Since the Vespa is my first scooter experience can someone please tell me if what I'm hearing is the automatic transmission shifting itself. Geez, I hope so.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks

Probably not a dumb question but an incredibly dumb thing to do: "...Made a short trip to get fuel without my helmet today."

my motor sounds like what you are saying but it is on my 150... could it be a cooling fan? my forced air fan makes a clicking type noise and so does my motor. Just are you sure it is from the front of the scoot?

Wear the helmet and you won't worry about the noise.

Good one JimC. You are right. I would never have heard it in the first place.

Yes, the clicking is coming from the front. Thanx

I don't suppose you can reproduce the noise by bouncing your scooter......violently.

It may merely be the usual 'whish' or 'click' heard while the holes in the disc(s) [rotor(s)] go past the currently sharp front edges of the brake pads.

Did you ever find the problem?
I have the same problem on my MP3 500. Around 3500rpm I hear a clicking sound. Performance is not affected, but it is concerning. Does anyone know what that is? Is it normal for CVTs? Thanks for the help...

My LX150ie makes a clicking/rattle, light throttle cruising, hot engine.
It comes and goes..sort of used to it now. I tried a slightly thicker grade of oil which helped alot.

I have a clicking coming from my front end, too.

At least in my case, it's not a huge problem. Turns out it's just the fact that the fork cover fasteners keep falling off. The only one that stays on is the small Phillips-head screw visible on the outside. The two "interior" fasteners have been replaced multiple times, to no avail. The clicks happen when I hit a slight bump or change in the roadway, which makes the plastic bang together, and I only hear it when I'm going slow enough that there's little wind noise (although now that I have a tall screen, that's most of the time).

Couldn't hurt to check.

I'm hoping a permanent solution can be found when I go to get my front tire changed. It's a PITA to get up in that area with the front wheel in place.

Strangely enough, I've only really heard this being a problem amongst GTVs. I know the front fender is a bit different from the GT/GTS, but I see no reason for the fork cover or its fasteners to be. So it's either a problem unique to GTVs, or the GT and GTS owners don't talk about it as much.

mee too!
i just noticed it today. clicking sound is present around 25mph then again about 35mph. i tried to shake the scoot when i got home but unable to reproduce the sound. after reading witch's post, i'm gonna check the plastics up front. it does have a similar sound to that of a plastic knife running across a wrought iron fence.

well, nothing rubbing in any way whatsoever up front. i did however change the oil, oil filter and recharged the air filter. when idling afterward to make sure i put everything back, i noticed the clammering sound again Crying or Very sad emoticon. opened the seat and removed the pet carrier. while on the throttle slightly (wish i had a tachometer) i could reproduce the sound everytime! its more of like a quick thug but repeated a few times. its almost like its dieseling. the oil light on the cluster is not illuminated and the dip stick reads fine, so i think the level is fine. added motul 5w40 that the dealer sold me, so that should be fine too.

any thoughts?

You might be hearing the fuel injector if your scoot is fuel injection. My apologies in advance if that is not the case.

If it's cold out and the bike isn't warmed up, I occasionally hear my rollers rattle upon hard accelleration. Sounds awful, but it's nothing to worry about, and doesn't even happen consistantly. Dunno if that's the issue, but it's a possibility.

Did they charge you to repair it?

It may be coming from your exhaust, when they are loose they make ticking noise.

went for a 20+ mile ride today and the sound is still there. don't think its the injector or the muffler. unable to reproduce the sound while shaking the scoot, but its prevalent on acceleration. its almost like something is loose enough to rattle around at certain speeds.

further troubleshooting lead me to check the hub oil and it was WAAAY LOW! It didn't even register on the dip stick! so, i topped it off at the local auto parts store then drove home and the clunking is still there. albiet the ride was only about 4 miles (told you it was a local store)!

well i changed out the rollers & cvt belt. ride is better and don't hear the marbles anymore! the variator plates show a little bit of wear, but not too bad.
