Modern Vespa

I'm here for a conference, and maybe I'm a bit biased but after being in a cab for 40 minutes an witnessing some very interesting driving habits, I don't know how you guys ride on surface streets without feeling like you're goig to be murdered.

Is it really as bad as it seems? It just seems lawless.

The way I do it is... ride to the train station and take the train/subway in.

Seriously, it's a little too "dicey" for my blood during the week. I'd do it on a Sunday, though.

I drive to work every day in FiDi... I have no problems at all! It's always good to get the blood pumping with an exhilarating ride to work...

Today is meet up night for the NYC Scooter Club. They meet at the Brass Monkey in lower Manhattan, on Little 12th I think. Google Brass Monkey New York.

just go and be very alert and ride fast... and thumb always on the horn and 2 fingers on each brake at all times.

It's where I learned to ride and I ride in Manhattan every day, so I'm just very used to it. After you've been riding a while here, your peripheral vision and sixth sense get pretty sharp. And there are a lot of advantages to riding a scooter here. Isn't San Francisco just as crazy?

Organized chaos

I spend a lot of time in Manhattan and it always seems to me like all the Vespas look like Mad Max just got off of them. They look like they've been through hell.

I LOVE riding my scooter in NYC. I still think it's just as much fun as it was when I first got it. Sure, you need to be vigilant to watch out for the many dangers, but it is probably the most enjoyable way to travel around this great city.

London Vespas don't look much better!

It's definitely a bit nutty, but once you do it for a bit you get use to it and it's just a way of life.

I'm never more aware of the road than I am on my scooter in Manhattan... keeps me on my toes and get the blood going... big shit eating grin ear to ear most times, just knowing I conquered it all on my terms...
