Hi, I'm looking to but my first bike in the form of a Vespa! Wooo! So thought I would join this forum to ask for some advise.

I'm currently looking at a 2006 Vespa gts 250 but I notice it has a fairly high milage of 21000miles. Could this be a potential issue? What should I look out for? In fact any advise on the second hand vespa market would be greatly appreciated!

For a GTS 250 7,000 miles a year is medium mileage rather than high. It's high by Glass's guide of course - they seem to think scooters shouldn't do more than 1,500 miles a year.

If it's been fully serviced, with red key, and clean condition it should be good for many times its current mileage.

I'm in a unique situation to have two GTSs in the household, one with low mileage (5,400), one with high mileage (26,500). Both are about the same age (which is not really relevant, the miles are what count).

So, when I ride the low-mile GTS, I notice several things that immediately tell me what I'm riding: less engine noise (rattle), all-around quieter operation, smoother power, more direct throttle response, better acceleration. And I honestly don't think it is the color! (the low-mile one is red).

Oh, and the engine turns on in an instant, while the high-mile GTS takes about a full second or a tiny bit more (two engine revolutions). But then I think it always has.

If it were me, I'd look for a lower mile specimen. What are they asking for that Vespa?

That would be about day-one mileage.

if you choose to use a flag for more visability, hopefully it's not as tattered as the old glory posted above

Gts show up on the for sale page on this website and there always seem to be some on craigslist, at least in the sf bay area.

Be patient and wait for what u want.

there are so many bikes on here with that many miles and they run like new. the bike should work just fine... but use "high mileage" to work in your favor to make the price go down a little
