Sitting at stop sign, waiting my turn, slight hill (it is San Fran).
Give it gas. Nothing happens. No forward movement. WTF?
Give it gas again - rear wheel slips, but no forward movement. Wobbles a bit. Double WTF?
Give it gas third time - finally engages.
No problems rest of the ride (20 mins or so)

Road was dry. Was this the clutch not engaging? Something else? How concerned should I be? Supposed to go on 3-4 hr ride up coast.

Thanks!

Milage? thinking belt or clutches worn. Hills will shorten the clutch life I am sure.

When you say "rear wheel slips", do you mean it didn't rotate or do you mean that it spun on the pavement? If it's the latter, then it was simply a road condition issue. If it was the former, then it's a clutch issue. BTW, another great mp3 Haiku.

Re: Rear Tire Didn't Engage/Slipped while starting up
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - clutch or road condition. But unfortunately, Im not certain. The second time though the rear tire did seem to spin on pavement - as if the tire tried to grip the road but couldnt and the bike shimmied to the left a little....

Re miles - less than 5000. Already on second clutch.... Last check belt was good...

Damn, I've got 9400 miles on my MP3-500 and my 1st clutch is still holding fine. Something isn't right with that!

You live in Louisiana. Kinda flat down there, last I checked. We got them there hills in San Fran. Makes a huge difference on the clutch.
