Am I the only one that finds that something made by Honda that "will be released in Europe and North America first and sales in Japan at a later date" a bit odd?

Sounds like good news. Guess we wait to see the results. It would be nice to have some options for a change!

Sounds like, functionally, it is essentially a clone of the Aprilia Mana electronically controlled CVT transmission, minus the "rain" engine and transmission map. By the way, if you've not ridden the Mana, you are missing a remarkable and memorable experience.

I think that's the transmission Honda uses in the DN-01.
It is a really sophisticated piece of machinery. I'll bet it costs a bunch when it fails! |

It will be great when they start to use them in bikes.
I don't know how quickly they will filter down to Scooters though, they are complex, heavy and expensive. But they have the effieciency of a manual gearbox with the ease of being able to be used as an automatic. They are used in top end cars with "flappy paddles", Ferrari's for example but the flappy paddles we see on normal consumer cars are still using standard auto boxes. Perhaps as we start getting larger displacement and higher horsepower scooters then it may be necessary as the double clutch doesn't have issues with high output motors whereas belt drives used with variators start to struggle. //Dennis. |

This is something VW, Audi, Porsche etc has been using for years. Porshe and Audi started using it for racing in the late 80:s. I think it was originally "copied" from some tractor were there is a need for a constant pull without loosing momentum during gear change, eg when plowing

Of couse my memory from 31 years ago may be faulty. If you have better or more update information, what are the legal speeds now? Can someone with a high horsepower bike open it up on Japanese roads today? |
