Just curious... thinking about doing this to my buddy and my GS160 :

1) removing the load balanced lighting coils from the stator, installing the dual 12v bajaj coil setup ( $24 from scooterworks ) ...with a single 12v output

2) installing the scooterworks EIK harness

3) running a 12v regulator ( or P200 5 pole rect. if i'm doing a battery )

upsides : ability to run 12v bulbs, abililty to potentially charge a 12v battery and run 12v accessories ( read, stebel nautilus under the spare tire cowl )

downsides: loss of load balanced system means all devices share single power source thus dim when additional load is added... headlight dims when you step on the brake pedal, etc.

...not if output is high enough (system not overloaded) and battery is fully charged .

Question for you then.

Here's my plan:

I'm going to weld up a box that's the same size as the factory GS / SS battery ( tall and thin )

At the bottom will be a small dry cell battery (12v). Above that will be a stebel nautilus ( or magnum if the naut won't fit ), and above that will be the 12v 5 pole rectifier, receiving the 12v ac input off the stator.

Couple questions:

I really don't want to run an off / on switch to kill the battery. Can i run a relay in there that senses power coming off the stator and switches on the battery?

On the 5 pole p-series rectifier, was it meant to take only a single power run? Or was it meant to have 2 coils doing the inverse wave of the other ?

Any advice on setting up what i'm talking about?

I basically want to use this harness :

http://www.chipcook.net/eik_harness.pdf

And stick the rectifier where the regulator is in the diagram, and hang the horn off of that setup *obviously running additional wires to operate the horn relay*

also :

can i use that harness with that Y-shaped regulator setup, or should i modify it so that the 12v rectifier is in series with the power run, versus off on a stub?

how about running a large capacitor instead of a battery? Then you don't have to turn it off when not running. It would charge up when you start the bike.

I'm also a big fan of making a wiring harness from scratch when you start mixing and matching things.

Here's the one I did for the UnStealth.
