Hi all,
I have a question: what is the MPG on a Mojito Custom 150cc? On a scooter review for a Mojito 125, I've read 87MPG for that scooter. I've also trolled on this forum, where one poster says 50-60 mpg for a Mojito 150 (not sure if this changes it, but it said it was upgraded to 190cc).

I want something upwards of at least 70. 50-60 seems like my Prius... I want something that'll offer substantially more.

Thanks for reading.

I just picked up a Mojito Custom 150 yesterday. I'll let you know what kind of mileage I see once I fill 'er up again.

Kent

ps- What a nice ride the Mojito is. Rode about 80 miles yesterday, comfortable with excellent power.

Hi Sh0e

The cc amount of the motor is going to be your biggest difference.. a 50cc only goes about 40mph but can get upwards of 100mpg. Too slow for me. But after the cc size of the engine, then rider style is the biggest difference in mileage. You can have two duplicate scoot, say LX150's and have two people that ride the same road everyday. One can get upwards of 70 to 75 mpg, while the other only gets 60 to 65 mpg. The difference is riding style, the high mpg starts off slow and smooth, coasts to every stop, and never goes over 45 mph. While the other guy splits lanes, so is up front every chance he gets, so has to take off at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) almost every time, brakes hard to get stopped in time when a light changes on him, and rides at WOT every chance he gets.
Yes a kitted 150 into a 190 is going to get far less gas mileage than a stock 150. The kitting was done to get more power, not to get better gas mileage. Plus if he kitted, he probably is more the WOT rider anyway.

So a stock 150 can get over 70mpg, it is mostly up to the rider's style. I will also add that a stock GTS250 can get upwards of 70 to 75 mpg.. This is due to the liquid cooled, fuel injected engine. It is really going to be interesting when the 2010 150s come out next year and we see what kind of mileage the F.I. 150 engines get once they are broken in. ??? are they going to be able to break the 90mpg mark???

I hope this helps you to decide, what ever you were trying to decide. It kind of sounded like you want to get a Mojito 150 of some kind, but were being held back by the reports of low mpg.... I have a Vespa LX150 and a GTS 250, they get about the same gas mileage, which was news to me, as I would have started with the GTS 250 if I had know it got as good gass mileage as the 150. I just went and looked and that is a very nice looking scooter, lots of little style and frills added..

Thanks Dolphin (& kdemas)...

What do you mean by the '10s being more fuel-efficient? Just from liquid-cooled?

Yeah, I am in contact with a dealer who has a used '07 Mojito in stock. I liked it... and I'm sure it'll suit my needs just fine. (Actually, a 50cc I'm sure would do the job just the same; the wimpiness factor, of being forced to put-put, doesn't strike me.) So I'm interested in a 150cc.

That's why thoughts (like from kdemas above) help. It gives me the push I need... I've never owned a scooter. It feels like a big step to become a "two-wheeler"...maybe even a bit frivolous (though I know how much it'll save me in the long run, making it my primary commuter).

I GUESS... maybe I can change the jist of this thread... inspire me to make the call to the dealer! (Thanks.) Razz emoticon

The Mojito had a couple different engines. I just found a site using that 87MPG figure: Keep in mind fuel economy is calculated differently by country. Not sure where that number came from, but it's hooey.

I think all the Customs and later (post-2002, maybe?) ones had the LEADER 150. You can probably get 65MPG or so on it-same as an ET, LX or Piaggio Fly-depending on all the variables that affect fuel economy.

Manufacturer MPG estimates are usually baloney anyways.

The Mojito 150 was the scoot I initially wanted before I bought my LX. There was only one dealer carrying them in this area and this was right at the peak of Aprilia scooter parts hell after the Piaggio buyout.
I know someone who was selling a kitted 50; if I had the scratch for a backup scoot, I'd have loved to have it!

I was talking about the 2010 LX150 models will have a fuel injected engine. It is the fuel injection that gives it the better fuel economy. and the liquid cool adds engine life, as it runs cooler, so things do not wear out as fast. Oil will last longer too. That is why the GTS250 gets the same fuel economy as the LX150. So if a LX150 corroborated can get 70mpg, a fuel injected one should be able to get 10 to 20 mpg more...

But you are after the Mojito, and I do not have any idea about their engines or what they may be doing to them in the future... I say do what you have to do, but get your self one (at least Razz emoticon ) and get out there and ride. You will not regret it!! Just take it easy and do not jump right into the heavy traffic, unless you are a crazy fearless daredevil!!

Has Vespa actually announced the FI 150s will be coming for 2010 in the US? We sometimes have to wait a while for these things. The Piaggio dealer meeting is in October; they'll probably announce it then if it's coming.
